Great nature trail to take on a cool winter day ! Be forewarned of a couple of things however. The parking lot can get completely jam-packed and outside parking on the street is not permitted. The trails themselves can be potentially treacherous, due to tree roots protruding and some narrow and steep paths. Being mindful of your footing is crucial if you are up to taking the full length of the trail, and some thick soled shoes / boots are likely ideal. Wouldn't suggest coming here during the hot and rainy months as I would imagine the mosquitoes would be horrendous and some of the paths become submerged in the marsh, also increasing your risk of exposure to snakes and alligators which may be present... Also, there are no restrooms nor water fountains along the trail, so coming prepped for several hours is advised. There are occasional benches along the way to sit and eat if needed, and a remote campground at the far end of the trail by reservation only. Overall, this place is definitely worth a visit if you are in the area. Hard to find decent nature paths with an appropriate length to occupy an afternoon...
What a beautiful hiking trail! The boardwalk sections are well maintained as well as the dirt trails. There are a lot of tree roots to watch out for but it’s definitely worth it. We saw a small gator, large turtle sunbathing, & a wild pig foraging in the woods! Recommend hiking shoes and hiking poles.
Went hiking here for the first time. It was great, altho the roots on the trail were brutal. The trail was dry, except for one spot that was easy to jump over. Didn't see any bears, gators, or rattlesnakes, but did see a feral pig, and he was just off the trail. Didn't pay any mind to me, tho. FYI the porta-jon was awful.
