Experience the rich history of southeastern Arizona on this motorized tour that begins in Old Bisbee and travels north along State Route to the famous Wild West town of Tombstone. From there, the tour continues northeast to the ghost town of Gleeson, Arizona, where participants will explore preserved historical sites and hear fascinating stories of the town’s past. Visitors will see the Gleeson Jail, schoolhouse, and general store once owned by Joe Bono’s father, as well as the old oak tree used for hangings and vigilante justice. The tour also includes visits to the hospital where miners often succumbed to injuries, a trailer site of infamous crimes, and the Gleeson Cemetery, providing a full view of the hardships and dramatic history of this mining community. The Copper Belle Mine, once the largest in the area, is also featured, allowing participants to view the equipment used to lower miners into the mine and haul out ore.
Discover the dramatic and sometimes grim stories that shaped Gleeson while taking in the unique landscape and preserved structures of the ghost town. Tour participants are encouraged to take plenty of photographs, especially at the jail, which houses extensive memorabilia from the town’s past.
