Dettifoss is breathtaking power in its rawest form. As one of the most forceful waterfalls in Iceland you can actually feel the ground vibrate as you get closer. I was lucky enough to visit on a sunny day and there was a constant rainbow over the falls which made the whole experience feel magical. The landscape around the area is wonderful and the 15 to 20 minute walk from the parking lot takes you through dramatic lava fields. There are two viewing platforms to check out. One offers a panoramic view and the other brings you right up to the thunderous water. Parking is free but be sure to bring a raincoat because the mist is heavy.
Stunning place, this waterfall is really powerful and impressive. We were lucky to see it in a sunny day, so there was a constant rainbow😍! Also the landscape around this area is wonderful! There weren't many tourists, the place was pretty empty and this added to the magical atmosphere.
Dettifoss is another absolutely beautiful and incredibly powerful waterfall. We chose the west side because we wanted to get wet and see the rainbows. It’s about a 15-minute walk to reach the falls, and after just 5 minutes you already start feeling the spray. Waterproof clothing is a must, as there’s a lot of water along the path. The experience was intense—at times we couldn’t really look straight at the waterfall since the spray was hitting our faces. Still, it’s a spectacular sight and definitely a must-see. Next time, we might try the east side for a clearer view. There is limited parking. And toilets are not clean. Food truck with hotdogs and soups is there too.
