With all the fanfare surounding the Cathedral, people might actually not have time or forget to visit this museum. It is very interesting and quite big. My favorite part were the original Cathedral doors in exposition. This was part of Pass Brunelleschi and very well worth it!

The Museo dell’Opera del Duomo is where Florence puts the Duomo complex back into human scale. Founded in 1891 and rebuilt for a major reopening in 2015, it gathers originals that once lived outside on the cathedral, campanile, and baptistery - works now too fragile for weather and crowds. The headline room is the Sala del Paradiso, which stages a full-scale reconstruction of the Duomo’s earlier façade as a display framework, so figures that once sat high above the piazza can be read at eye level. Nearby, Ghiberti’s Porta del Paradiso (1425-1452) stops being a famous name and becomes a set of panels you can actually study. It is less “extra museum” than the key to what you just saw outdoors.

Very cool experience. Lots of early work that has taken off the cathedral. Once we got in we realized that we wanted to take more time and we’re going to exit and come back later, but we asked and they said we can’t do that. Glad we asked!
Catherine

Great info about the Pantheon. Guide was knowledgeable and friendly. Great tour.
Gina

Our tour guide was wonderful. The directions we received for the initial meeting were not good. The times and locations were completely inaccurate. This was very frustrating to say the least. Once we met with our guide the tour was wonderful and the guide excellent.

If you're in the area and had the tickets for Brunelleschi dome booked, it's a no breather that you'll probably want to add this onto the tickets package. The museum is so well arranged and offered so much in terms of history and culture. To be honest, I'm not sure much a big fan of museum but this one really opened my eyes given how well the artifacts are presented.

I bought a combined ticket for the cathedral, terraces and the museum. In the end, my visit at the museum was the most impressive and enjoyable of all. The cathedral and terraces are over rated . The museum is small and intimate, yet has some very interesting art treasures. The display is beautiful, you can pay for an audio guide. A hidden gem that is well worth a visit.
Claire

Nicola was a wonderful guide. the information in the Baptistry and the museum was exception. I highly recommend going with this tour.
Kenneth

Tour was excellent. Helps having someone point out and explain things of interest. Only improvement would be a better meeting point. We had a group of 25 people.
