An awesome tour by the tour guide. You go to the counter mention the language you would like to hear the tour in and you are taken for a long but interesting walk. You will be mesmerized by the mine and all of the sculptures thay are there. Wear a good walking shoe and you will be fine as long as you are able to walk normal distances
The Wieliczka Salt Mine is a breathtaking dive into history and human ingenuity but not for the claustrophobic. This UNESCO World Heritage site, in operation since the 13th century, showcases centuries of salt mining, underground chapels, sculptures and chambers carved entirely from salt. We descended on foot over 300 steps, exploring tunnels that shift from warm to drafty, requiring stamina. At the end, groups of 10 exit via a small lift, completing the journey back to the surface. Tickets must be purchased in advance and you should arrive at least 20 minutes before your time slot. You line up according to language, get a guide and receive headphones to hear all commentary live. About 2.5 hours underground, but the history and artistry make it unforgettable.
A must-do whilst visiting Krakow! We had a tour provided by Tomasz who was excellent. We learnt all about the history of the mine, the levels and chambers. It's understandable why the salt is nicknamed "white gold". It's important to pre-book your ticket in your chosen language in advance. Make sure to wear appropriate clothes and footwear. The lift back up is an adventure! The underground chapels and the main chapel with all the statues is stunning! Easy to get to on a bus from Krakow city centre.
