Guests should start their day with a hearty breakfast at their hotel before the morning pick-up at nine, when they will be driven to our office for a detailed river safety briefing. Once prepared, participants embark on an exhilarating journey along one of the wildest stretches of the river, where the intensity and energy of the rapids demand focus, teamwork, and courage. Depending on water levels, there may be an opportunity to swim under the spray of the Victoria Falls, offering a refreshing and unforgettable experience. Seriously insane experience. Some of the rapids are seriously wild and scary. I was very nervous but the instructor (Kazi) was really knowledgeable on the best course to take and was very calming so made it through all okay. Definitely catered for adrenaline junkies so I would pre-warn that it is very challenging (but also great fun!)

A great day out, well-organised, exciting but safe; these guys do not want you swimming down the river. The walk out is not difficult in proper footwear but the rafting will probably make your thighs ache. Wear long cut-offs and a shirt unless you are sun-hardened.

Setting one's self a challenge to be braver at 70 may not have been wise. But it definitely was exhilarating! I hate heights, can't swim well and fear often rules my thinking. BUT... I did a combo, jetboat ride followed by whitewater rafting. Our whitewater boat skipper was amazing and no one was tossed out, and we didn't flip the boat. The rapids we rode were grade 3-5, we got out on shore and walked two which were grade 6 as they were too dangerous. The walk was rock climbing, not so easy with all your safety gear and oar. The most difficult part was the walk in and out of the gorge. It was tough, I absolutely struggled with the climb out but my skipper waited with me encouraging me, pouring water on me, carrying my gear and pulling me up the rocky sections. Thanks Shearwater for choosing exceptional staff to take care of me! The end finished with drinks and a great lunch. The experience was videoed, that part was expensive but you can choose whether you want the memory. I did it and I feel proud.
