Fore is a lovely little village - don't just stop at the abbey, be sure to walk the 3km tour past a cottage ruins, the old motte and baily castle ruins, the new church, the wayside cross and the post/general store/pub.
What a Gem of a find! We rode our bikes there and spent a few hours just exploring. It's beautiful grounds with a 2 ish mile walk around thru the trees. It's got amazing scenery!
Absolutely beautiful and bit magical,with the backdrop of lush low lying mountain view at one side and the native Irish plants across the field with the abbey view it's gorgeous , the old monastery views, the stoned pathway to abbey, Its centuries old , built by St Fechin famous for the “Seven Wonders” – like water that runs uphill and a church built on a bog. One of the free best places to visit in West Meath
