Explore the natural beauty and serene environment of Sundarijal, located just north-east of the Kathmandu Valley. Named after the Hindu goddess Sundarimai, this area is famous for short hikes and serves as a gateway for trekkers heading toward Chisapani. Visitors are greeted with ancient forests, cascading waterfalls, rushing streams, and expansive hilly ridges that stretch into distant valleys and snowy peaks. The green landscape, combined with the water reservoir, creates a perfect setting for nature lovers and adventure seekers alike. The diverse vegetation includes pine, oak, and rhododendron forests, while wildlife such as the Himalayan black bear, leopard, jungle cat, and rhesus monkeys add excitement to the trails. Birdwatchers, butterfly enthusiasts, and mushroom hunters will find plenty to explore, as the region is home to hundreds of species.
Discover the spiritual and cultural significance of Boudhanath Stupa, the largest stupa in Nepal and a central hub of Tibetan Buddhism outside Tibet. Located on the eastern outskirts of Kathmandu, Boudhanath is a center for Tibetan culture and rich in Buddhist symbolism. Pilgrims and visitors alike walk around the stupa, spinning prayer wheels and offering prayers, experiencing a sense of peace and devotion. The surrounding area is filled with monasteries, shops, and cafes where one can immerse in Tibetan traditions, art, and cuisine. Exploring Boudhanath Stupa provides a unique opportunity to witness living culture, connect with spiritual practices, and appreciate the architectural grandeur of one of Nepal’s most iconic religious landmarks.

I visited Sundarijal Waterfall last month, and it was an amazing escape from the city. The short hike leading to the falls was refreshing, surrounded by lush greenery and the sound of flowing water. The waterfall itself was vibrant and powerful, creating a cool mist that felt incredibly calming. It’s a great spot for nature lovers, photographers, or anyone wanting a peaceful break. The area was clean, and the local atmosphere felt welcoming. I truly enjoyed the blend of adventure and serenity. Sundarijal is definitely worth a visit if you’re looking for a quick, beautiful getaway near Kathmandu. Thank you.

A short hike from the Sundarijal bus park, making it very accessible even for beginners. This waterfall is the perfect refreshment spot near Kathmandu. Best enjoyed in the monsoon when the flow is at its peak! 🌧️🌿💧

It was an amazing experience for me to engage with nature, it's not about adventuring but t getting in touch with nature peace, and greeneries help me relaxing my mind. It was a perfect day for me to spend the whole holiday

The hike at Sundarijal was beautiful — surrounded by nature, waterfalls, landscapes, butterflies, and colorful caterpillars. It’s a wonderful place for a short escape from the city. But the trash situation is heartbreaking. Sadly, many Nepali visitors seem to have little sense of civic responsibility. People come here to enjoy nature and take beautiful photos, but once they’re done, they carelessly throw their trash around. It’s frustrating and disappointing to see such behavior in a place that belongs to all of us, not just to be used and littered. The entrance fee is Rs. 100 for Nepalis and Rs. 1000 for foreigners, yet it’s unclear how that money is being used. A simple step, like hiring staff to regularly clean and manage the waste, would make a huge difference. It’s embarrassing to see foreigners sigh at the state of the environment when Sundarijal could easily be one of the most pristine and enjoyable hiking spots in Kathmandu.

I went to Sundarijal Waterfall on July 21, 2025, and had a great time. If you live around Kathmandu, you should definitely visit once. It's even more fun if you go by bike. It's also a great place for hiking. Even though it was the rainy season, I really enjoyed it.
