Embark on a fascinating journey as we explore the historic Roluos Group, one of the earliest major temple complexes built during the Angkorian era. Our first stop will be the Lo Lei Temple, a beautiful structure known for its intricate carvings and historical significance. Originally constructed on an artificial island, Lo Lei offers a glimpse into early Khmer art and religious architecture.
Next, we will visit Preah Ko Temple, which translates to "Sacred Bull." This temple, dedicated to the Hindu god Shiva, features six impressive brick towers, each adorned with elaborate sandstone carvings and inscriptions that highlight the spiritual devotion and craftsmanship of the time.
Our exploration of the Roluos Group continues with a visit to Bakong Temple, the largest and most significant temple of the group. Bakong is often considered a prototype for the majestic temple-mountains of later Angkorian architecture. Surrounded by a moat and featuring a grand central pyramid, Bakong offers a sense of both power and serenity, making it a highlight of our journey.
The Roluos site marks the location of the ancient city of Hariharalaya, which served as the capital of the Khmer Empire before it was moved to Koh Ker and eventually to the magnificent city of Angkor Thom.
After exploring these historical treasures, we will continue our adventure with a visit to Kompong Phluk Village. This unique stilted village, located on the floodplains of Tonle Sap Lake, offers a fascinating look into the traditional way of life in Cambodia. As the day winds down, we will take in the breathtaking sunset over the water, creating the perfect ending to a day filled with history, culture, and unforgettable experiences.
