Embark on a fascinating tour through the historical Roluos Group, the site of Cambodia’s ancient capital before it was relocated to Koh Ker and later to Angkor Thom. The Roluos Group comprises three significant temples, Lolei, Preah Ko, and Bakong, all of which were originally Buddhist temples. Our journey begins with Lolei, the northernmost temple in the Roluos complex, built in the late 9th century. Despite its age, Lolei's impressive structures and its peaceful surroundings make it a captivating place to explore.
Next, we will visit Preah Ko, another 9th-century temple dedicated to Hindu deities, particularly Shiva. Preah Ko is famous for its three towers, each adorned with intricate carvings and stone lions that reflect the artistic mastery of the Khmer Empire. After soaking in the beauty and history of Preah Ko, we will take a break for lunch. Following lunch, we will venture into a nearby local village to witness daily Cambodian life. The market is a vibrant place where you can interact with locals, shop for unique souvenirs, and experience the culture firsthand.
Our day continues with a visit to Bakheng Mountain, an ancient temple mountain constructed in the early 10th century. From the top of Bakheng Mountain, you will be treated to a stunning panoramic view of Angkor Wat, especially beautiful at sunset. This unforgettable view of one of the world's most iconic monuments, combined with the rich history of the temples, makes for an enriching and scenic end to the tour.
