Embark on an enriching private tour to explore two of Cambodia’s most captivating and remote temple complexes: Koh Ker and Beng Mealea. The journey begins with a scenic drive from Siem Reap, located 120 kilometers to the north, which takes approximately two and a half hours. Koh Ker, built in the 10th century by King Jayavarman IV, is a remarkable archaeological site nestled in the northern Cambodian jungle. This secluded temple complex offers a rare glimpse into early Khmer architecture, away from the more well-known Angkor ruins. While the site remains relatively underdeveloped, basic visitor facilities are currently being built, allowing you to experience its raw beauty in a tranquil, less crowded setting.
After visiting Koh Ker, we continue our journey to Beng Mealea Temple, a fascinating site that was originally constructed as a Hindu temple but features intriguing carvings with Buddhist motifs. The primary material used in its construction is sandstone, and the temple remains largely unrestored, adding to its mystique. Trees and thick brush have overtaken much of the site, with many of its stones scattered in large heaps amidst the towers and courtyards, creating an enchanting atmosphere. For many years, Beng Mealea was difficult to reach, but with a recently constructed road passing through Koh Ker, the temple is now more accessible and increasingly attracting visitors. Located just 77 kilometers from Siem Reap, this ancient ruin offers an adventurous experience for those seeking to explore Cambodia’s hidden gems.
Finally, after soaking in the historical and natural beauty of both temples, we will make our way back to Siem Reap Town, where we’ll drop you off at your hotel, concluding this unforgettable tour. This private excursion combines the mystery of the jungle, the intrigue of ancient Khmer temples, and the thrill of exploration, offering a deeper connection to Cambodia’s rich cultural heritage.
