A group of 8 of us hired Explore Real Crete for a full day tour in early January 2026. Our tour guide was Ed.. Ed is a safe driver with a beautiful van who is intimately familiar with Crete. He also has excellent English speaking skills and intimate knowledge of the island. His sense of humor and passion for Crete added to our tour experience. Thanks to Ed, we had an incredible day meeting authentic native Cretans. Ed happily accommodated our group with several unique food and destination requests. it was a special day that we will remember for a long time!

We greatly appreciated the time and attention we had from Stavros and his team. What a wonderful ambassador Stavros is for Crete. He saw to our every need. And, we so enjoyed our time with Dimitris. He shared his knowledge of Crete freely and had a great sense of humor. Knossos Palace and the associated museum were incredible as was the guide selected for us. Stavros was phenomenal- hands down the best tour guide we have experienced on our trip. This tour showed us the real side of Crete that we otherwise would not have experienced. I had my honeymoon last month in Greece and this was the most memorable and wonderful experience we had on our entire trip. It was just happenstance that I was able to find and book with Ed for the all day Heraklion tour. We were also lucky enough to have his wife along for the tour as well! Not only was it a nice and small group (that is the only way they book, 6 people max) but it was FILLED to the brim with activities for the whole day. Ed and Katie showed us a real glimpse at life in Crete. Absolutely beyond the touristy surface. We saw an olive oil factory that was small and family owned, we went to a local family pottery, a family owned restaurant as well as that family’s farm where we were able to pick and taste a lot of the ingredients they cooked with! We saw the windmills, and the mountains, Zeus’ birthplace. Too much to list! And the pictures were phenomenal! Don’t even question it. The price is unbelievable right? Believe it. And use cash if you can! This is great for all ages, we had two young ones on our tour and they kept up great! Expect to drink a little, but no pressure. Expect to eat great food with wonderful company and lastly, expect to fall in love with Heraklion in a way you never anticipated! When we come back, we’ll be booking again with Ed!

You will be doing yourself a disservice by not booking with Stavros! I can’t emphasize how amazing of a tour guide he is! His charisma was enough to wake up the entire tour group. He was also incredibly knowledgeable about all the history of Crete. He took us to visit the Crete you don’t get to see in the commercials, we got to see the authentic and local side of things. The best part is that he doesn’t take you to any tourist traps! I will without a doubt only rely on Stavros for all my future Crete trips!!!
