Lake Manyara National Park offers visitors an exceptional safari experience within one of Tanzania’s most ecologically diverse protected areas. Situated between the dramatic Great Rift Valley escarpment and the sparkling waters of an alkaline lake, the park combines striking scenery with abundant wildlife. Despite its relatively compact size, Lake Manyara is renowned for its remarkable concentration of habitats and species, making it a favorite destination for nature enthusiasts.

The park’s varied ecosystems include lush groundwater forests, open grasslands, acacia woodlands, and extensive lakeshore environments. These contrasting landscapes create ideal conditions for a wide range of wildlife, offering visitors excellent opportunities to observe animals in different natural settings. The ever-changing scenery adds to the park’s appeal, ensuring a dynamic and rewarding safari experience throughout the year.

A defining feature of the park is its alkaline soda lake, which supports an abundance of birdlife and contributes to the region’s rich ecological diversity. Large flocks of water birds gather along the shoreline, creating a colorful and vibrant spectacle that attracts birdwatchers from around the world. The lake and its surrounding wetlands play a vital role in sustaining the park’s delicate environmental balance.

Beyond its impressive bird population, Lake Manyara is home to a variety of mammals that thrive across its diverse habitats. Wildlife can often be seen moving between forests, plains, and lakeside areas, highlighting the extraordinary biodiversity contained within this protected landscape. Combining scenic beauty, rich ecosystems, and exceptional wildlife viewing, Lake Manyara National Park offers a memorable glimpse into the natural wonders of northern Tanzania.

Really amazing park with a big population of elephants 🐘. Definitely worth a visit. We stayed at Wayo Greencamp for three days.

Lake Manyara is one of the many parks in Tanzania, quite small relatively, but the only place you can see Blue Monkey's! There are Lions, Vervet Monkeys, Baboons, Giraffe, Elephants Hippos, Waterbuck, Klipspringer, and many of the other plains game. It has areas that are jungle type forest and open plains by the water. This is where one can find the greatest variety of waterbirds, Flamingo's, several species of Ibis, and Heron's, with many other of the 300 plus species of bird that Tanzania has to offer. Naturally it is a bird watchers and photographers paradise.

I originally wasn’t expecting much from Lake Manyara, but I was genuinely surprised by how much we saw, beautiful views of the lake and the birds and monkeys were adorable. The star of the show there are the elephants who aren’t afraid to let you know that you’re jeep is too close.
