This full day excursion departs from Salta and takes you through some of the most stunning natural and cultural landscapes in northern Argentina. The journey begins with a scenic drive to San Salvador de Jujuy, passing through picturesque towns such as Yala, Volcano, and Tumbaya, before reaching Purmamarca, famous for its Hill of Seven Colors. From there, you’ll visit Maimará with its Painter's Palette and the archaeological site of Tilcara, known for its high-altitude fortress, El Pucará de Tilcara. The route continues to the Tropic of Capricorn in Huacalera and the charming town of Uquía, home to Cuzco paintings dating back to the colonial era.
The highlight of this tour is the trek to Hornocal, where you’ll transfer to a 4x4 vehicle for a breathtaking journey up the mountains to witness the famous Hill of 14 Colors. The panoramic views of the multicolored hills are truly a once in a lifetime experience. You’ll have the chance to marvel at the vivid hues of the hills, shaped over millennia by geological forces. On the way back, the tour includes a brief stop in the town of Humahuaca, known for its rich culture and history, before heading back to Salta.
The total trip covers a distance of 516 km, and the tour lasts approximately 13 hours. As the journey does not allow for restaurant stops in Humahuaca, it's recommended to bring a snack or light lunch to keep you energized throughout the day. With its stunning views, historical sites, and cultural landmarks, this tour offers an unforgettable experience in one of Argentina's most picturesque regions.

a far place to get to by car but it is worth paying the combi for 15000 they take you

I recommend hiring a 4x4 transfer; for 15,000 pesos per person, you can forget about any damage to the vehicle and arrive faster. Plus, the drivers are always attentive and check if all the passengers are okay. There are many options for booking this service at the Humahuaca bus terminal. Upon arrival at Hornocal, there's an entrance fee of 1,000 pesos that goes to the local community that maintains the site. It's truly beautiful.

Best of the Best place to visit in North Argentina

Amazing place! Must visit if you are visiting Humahuaca! You can get there by yourself or there are riders taking you there with their 4x4 (price 8.000/10.000 pesos as of May 24 - you will find those guys either in the main square or at bus terminal). I would recommend to choose the second options if you don't have a suitable car since the road is very bumpy and rocky! The ride takes about 40mins to go up. Otherwise, you can get there by your car. The entrance fee is 500pesos. Once you enter, there is a small walk to a view point that gets closer to the mountain! Be ready to get a bit dizzy due to the altitude! You'll be trekking at more than 4.000 meters above the see level! During the road trip, you can also enjoy watching small group of vicuñas!
