Very well organized with the Oasis Agency and our Tour Guide Alex was amazing. For a person who does not go hiking very often it can be challenging but also very rewarding with the views. It’s a once in a lifetime trekking so I highly recommend you do it! I liked that on the second day we were very early in the spots so that we were not in those places with tourist crowds.
Rafael is without a doubt the best tour guide I have ever had! His passion and personal connection to the area made the trek much more interesting and informative. We got to taste delicious fruits and herbs along the way, as well as hearing a lot of super interesting stories about the area and it’s history. Lunch and breakfast was delicious both days. Just what you need after a long night/day of hiking. The accommodation was very beautiful as well. Simple, but it has everything you need. As a hiker with not much experience, the hike was definitely challenging (especially day 2 which is only upwards), but it was still manageable. Rafa made sure to set the pace in the beginning, but let everyone go at their own pace after about 30 minutes, so there was no rush at all, if you’re not the fastest. I had a lot of fun with the group I went with, which is of course a huge bonus. All in all it was an incredible experience, and I would recommend this specific trip for anyone considering!
This has been one of the best experiences yet on our trip to Peru. We started with our tour guide setting the pace and after an hour or so, he dropped to the back and allowed the group to walk at their own pace. Neither of us are regular hikers but are relatively fit and we found the hike to be on the more challenging side but entirely worth it. We were able to take plenty of breaks for water, suncream and take in the outrageous scenery. Additionally, our tour guide Ivan was fantastic. Friendly, supportive and knowledgeable. Along the way he showed us various plants and talked about traditions of the locals. The meals provided were delicious, good sized, traditional food and there were a few locals selling water, soft drinks and snacks along the trail. Accommodation was a nice little oasis which was a nice surprise after a day of hiking. You can purchase drinks and snacks at the venue also. The rooms were basic but comfortable.
