Immerse yourself in the rich flavors and traditions of Zanzibar on this unique food and spices tour. Your journey begins with a guided walk through a local spice farm, where you’ll learn about the island’s famous spices—such as clove, cinnamon, and nutmeg—and how they’ve shaped Zanzibari culture and cuisine over the centuries. You’ll touch, smell, and taste a variety of fresh spices while learning about their culinary and medicinal uses.
After the farm visit, continue to a nearby village for a hands-on cultural experience. Here, a local woman will warmly welcome you into her daily life, showing you how she tends her farm. Together, you'll harvest fresh cassava leaves, which you’ll use to prepare a traditional Zanzibari dish—a flavorful sauce made with coconut milk. Cook alongside her in an open-air village kitchen, learning time-honored cooking techniques passed down through generations.
Your experience ends with a delicious Swahili lunch, enjoyed while seated the traditional way—in the heart of the village, sharing food and stories. This tour offers a rare opportunity to connect with local life, taste authentic cuisine, and gain a deeper understanding of Zanzibar’s spice heritage.

Today we visited for the village tour, spice tour and cooking class. The whole day was a once in a lifetime experience. If you can afford to please bring some supplies for the local people. I wish I knew to bring some more things beforehand (although it is not expected). The spice tour was interesting and I learned some new things. The village tour was fantastic. The cooking class was great and the food was AMAZING. They altered the food to a vegan recipe. Everyone was very welcoming and friendly. Thank you for this opportunity and welcoming us to your village.

The spice farm tour was very interesting and informative. The guide showed many different plants, explained how they grow and how local people use them in daily life. There was also a small guessing game where we had to identify plants by their smell, which made the visit engaging. It was meaningful to see the local village and learn about the daily life of people there. A genuine and memorable experience that I recommend.

This Zanzibar Spice farm is by far one of the best on the island. We had such a good time with our hostess Fatima was extremely knowledgeable and could answer all our, sometimes slightly obscure, questions. This is a must do activity when on the island. Would recommend in a heartbeat but would also recommend to just turn up and go without booking to avoid being ripped off by external tour companies.

Today, Bilal gave us a very interesting and informative tour of his local spice plantation. Transportation was also arranged. Bilal was an excellent host and explained the different spices and trees. At the end, we were able to purchase locally grown spices without being pressured into anything. A thoroughly enjoyable afternoon. I can wholeheartedly recommend this tour.

This was a very interesting experience. It started off in a rather unusual way — Bilal, the host bought sweets and washing powder for some of the local villagers. While I’m not sure how this aligns with the principles of sustainable development, I don’t want to judge the local context too quickly. After the village tour, we had the chance to see and taste a wide variety of spices. The clear highlight of the day was the cooking session, followed by sharing the delicious meal we prepared together. I got to try many dishes I had never eaten before — all of them were very tasty.
