Beautiful views! Unfortunately we didn't plan the trip and went without warm clothes. It was very windy and cold. Still got to see some breathtaking views! Definitely will be going back next spring when it warms up. 🥰

Sunrise at Acadia Mountain, Peaceful Alternative to Cadillac Watching the sunrise from the summit of Cadillac Mountain is truly an unforgettable experience. It’s one of the first places in the U.S. to see the sun each morning, and the views over the ocean, islands, and Acadia National Park are breathtaking. As the sky shifts from deep blue to pink and gold, the whole mountaintop glows, it’s a magical moment that makes the early alarm completely worth it. Make sure to reserve a vehicle sunrise permit ahead of time, they’re required and can be hard to get, especially during peak season, since the number of spots is limited. The road to the summit is well-paved and easy to drive, but it’s best to arrive at least 30–45 minutes before sunrise to find parking and enjoy the colors changing before the sun breaks the horizon. Bring a warm jacket (it’s chilly and windy up top even in summer), a blanket or chair if you want to sit comfortably, and maybe a thermos of coffee. Despite the crowds, the atmosphere is peaceful, everyone just quietly taking in the view together. If you’re visiting Acadia, this is one experience you absolutely shouldn’t miss.

It was a wonderful day for leaf peeping! All the autumn colors were worth the wind exposure. The drive on the mountain provided many photo opportunities. Sand Beach and Jordan Pond House were great stops.

We got to the summit about 3pm and the views were spectacular on the drive up. Once at the summit, the fog moved in so we had to go back down a little ways for clear skies. Definitely worth the trip. I’ve never seen something so magical. Every direction was pure beauty.

If you’ve ever dreamed of standing on top of Maine with the world at your feet, Cadillac Mountain delivers—360° of pure, unobstructed glory. The views stretch from rocky coastline to forested hills, and catching the sunset here? Absolutely magical. Colors spill across the sky like a painter went wild, while the Atlantic glimmers below. Perfect for a sunset hike or a slow drive to the summit, this spot will leave your camera (and soul) full. Pro tip: Arrive early enough to snag a parking spot—sunset crowds are real!
