Operating the boat is simple, as guidance and tuition are provided before departure, making it ideal for beginners. With zero emissions, you can enjoy a quiet and environmentally friendly ride while exploring the surroundings, and the boat accommodates pets, allowing up to two dogs on board. The maximum weight load for the vessel is 980kg, so parties with more than six adults must inform the operator of the party ratio before commencing hire to ensure safety and comfort.
Boats must be returned by September 30th, and by 15:00 between October 1st and April 11th on the last day of hire. Rentals are only available to members of the public aged 18 and older, as persons under 18 are not permitted to drive the self-drive motor boats. The operator reserves the right to request a security deposit from certain parties. This combination of safety measures, operational guidance, and eco-friendly design ensures a secure, enjoyable, and responsible boating experience for everyone on board.

Disappointing experience with "Vision 3" in Carrick-on-Shannon We rented a "Vision 3" in August 2025. Unfortunately, the condition of the boat was entirely unacceptable, especially considering the price of over €6,000. The main issues were: Hygiene & Odors: There was visible fungus growing in one of the bedrooms and mold in various corners. We also experienced a persistent sewage odor throughout the boat. In one cabin, there was a strong engine smell at the start; after we reported this, the staff applied a strong pine scent to mask it. While this helped with the engine odor initially, it did not resolve the underlying issue, and the smell never fully vanished. Technical Defects: Essential instruments, including the rev counter and the wastewater indicator, were non-functional. This compromised safe navigation and planning for the entire duration of the trip. General Condition: The vessel showed severe signs of neglect, such as rust, water-damaged panels, and a damaged floor. Conclusion: The local staff were very friendly and tried to be helpful, but they were unable to fix these fundamental structural and technical problems. We believe that basic standards of cleanliness and hygiene should be a baseline requirement for any rental and should not depend on the price paid. However, at a premium price point of over €6,000, the condition we encountered was particularly disappointing.

Absolutely love the Shannon. Went from carrick on Shannon to Portrunny and back on a 3 night break. Water was warm. Lough Ree was like a glass. Weather wasn’t all blue skies but still came back with a colour. Will be going for longer next year. Sorry I didn’t take more picture. Too busy relaxing.

The staff is super friendly and helpful! The process is painless and simple. The boats are well kept and clean. Clear instructions on how to operate the boat before you set off and they even take you for a little test drive with you to make sure you feel comfortable driving the boat around if need be. The boats are well equipped and the facilities are more than adequate, but there are stop where they provide facilities if you’d prefer the ones on land. (You are given a map with a lot of details that Indicates the stops and what facilities are available at the stops) The scenery along the river as absolutely breathtaking and super calm. Obviously depending on the season, the waters are calm and easy to navigate. Take note, in the winters it can get SUPER cold and the waters might feel like your on the open ocean if the wind comes up👀 but for someone who loves being on the ocean, I loved it 🤣 so it depends on your preferences.

The Shannon on a boat with the right weather is hard to beat. The staff at Emerald Star were fantastic. Manage your expectations on what level of comfort you will get on the boat itself vs what you pay. But Ireland is fantastic and the people and sights are great.

What an incredible holiday! For those contemplating a stay with Emerald Star Le Boat in Carrick on Shannon, go for it—the staff are exceptionally friendly and accommodating. No request was too much; we asked for extra pillows and top deck cushions, and they were delivered to us within 10 minutes. Alex, the gentleman who acquainted us with our boat, was extremely kind and offered valuable advice on places to visit, sights to see, and great dining spots. Ireland is a stunning country, and I would certainly visit again and opt for this boatyard's services. We chose the Vision 3, a vast boat for just the four of us, but we loved its roominess, cozy amenities, full-sized showers, well-stocked kitchen, and especially the top deck—amazing! We could relax there, enjoy a BBQ, and absorb the breathtaking views, which greatly enhanced our experience. The boat featured a canopy that could be adjusted up or down, allowing us to enjoy the deck even when it rained—just amazing. The boatyard's owners are incredibly welcoming and make you feel right at home. If you're considering Emerald Star, I highly recommend booking your holiday with them; their service is outstanding.
