Lake Myvatn & Dettifoss

The tour begins with a visit to the stunning Goðafoss waterfall, where you can admire the cascading waters up close before continuing to Lake Myvatn. This area of exceptional natural beauty includes stops at notable sites such as the lava formations of Dimmuborgir. There is also a break at a local restaurant for refreshments (not included in the tour price) before heading toward Dettifoss, Iceland’s largest and most powerful waterfall.

Dettifoss, often called the king of Icelandic waterfalls, offers an unforgettable experience with its immense power and dramatic scenery. Guests have plenty of time to capture photographs and take in the surrounding landscapes. Nearby, another impressive waterfall can be explored on foot, with scenery that feels otherworldly—so much so that Dettifoss was featured in Ridley Scott’s 2012 film Prometheus. Upon returning to Akureyri, there is an optional visit to the Akureyri Forest Lagoon for a relaxing soak in the geothermal waters.
