Group tours at the Thomas Cole National Historic Site are designed for groups of twelve to forty people and offer a unique opportunity to explore the historic interiors, artists homes, and studios. Guests can engage with original paintings by Thomas Sarah and Emily Cole while learning about the history of the household and its artistic significance. The tour also includes a walking tour of the grounds and gardens where visitors can see the plantings that inspired Emily Coles botanical artworks and learn about the sites Greening Initiative. Special exhibition overviews are included along with access to the Cole Center and Gift Shop where guests receive a ten percent discount on a drink and granola bar bundle. College and university groups have special rates that provide an affordable way to experience the museum while regular group rates vary by season. Tours are guided by knowledgeable staff and split into smaller groups for larger parties to ensure a personal and engaging experience for all participants.
Visitors are encouraged to arrive twenty to thirty minutes before their scheduled tour to allow time for parking and check in at the Cole Center. The tour guide will meet groups on the Forecourt and the guided portion of the tour lasts up to seventy five minutes. After the tour visitors can shop for souvenirs in the gift shop. Bus drop off is located beside the New Studio building on Hudson Avenue with buses required to park on the street as the visitor lot cannot accommodate large vehicles. Cars and passenger vans may use the visitor parking lot accessible from Spring Street. Late arrivals should contact the site in advance to ensure accommodations whenever possible.
