Embark on a captivating journey to San Daniele del Friuli, where tradition and craftsmanship have shaped the creation of the renowned Prosciutto Crudo San Daniele. This historic ham production area, nestled between the Adriatic Sea and the Alps, is where generations of expertise converge. Your adventure begins with a visit to a traditional ham factory, where you’ll experience the intricate process behind this prized delicacy. From the arrival of fresh pork legs to their careful salting, aging, and maturing in specialized chambers, each step is a testament to the craft passed down through generations. Your knowledgeable guide will explain the significance of San Daniele's microclimate in producing the ham’s unique flavor, showcasing how the region’s natural conditions contribute to the final product's exceptional quality.
Following the factory tour, you’ll visit a charming family-run osteria, offering a curated tasting platter that perfectly pairs San Daniele’s famous prosciutto with local delicacies. The platter includes delicate slices of the ham, accompanied by sweet-and-sour pickled vegetables and regional cheeses, creating a delightful symphony of flavors. This culinary experience is elevated further with a selection of local wines from Friuli Venezia Giulia, including Friulano, a floral white wine, and Merlot, a rich red that complements the savory depth of the ham. The wines come from nearby vineyards, providing a true taste of the region’s rich viticultural heritage.
Beyond just the food and wine, this tour offers a deeper connection to the land and its people. The history of the factory dates back to the 19th century, and its survival through major challenges like World War II and the 1976 earthquake are integral parts of the family’s legacy. This experience gives you the opportunity to savor not only the flavors but also the stories behind them, creating a rich and immersive journey that goes beyond a simple tasting. Whether you’re a food lover, a history enthusiast, or just someone eager to experience authentic Italian traditions, this tour provides an unforgettable blend of culture, cuisine, and passion.

Fantastic tour. And very good food. We went with a stag do and it was well received by all. Would recommend to everyone. And great value. 3L of wine, a mountain of home for all and lots of cheese (plus dessert for 7 came to just 215 euros.)

Great experience, great staff and a very nice and knowledgeable guide! Highly reccomended

The prosciutto was outstanding-softer, fresher, and more flavorful than any Parma ham I’ve tried before. Perhaps this is because I had never experienced prosciutto served on site until now. The service was excellent and the staff were friendly, making the visit even more enjoyable. Although it required a bit of a drive, it was well worth it. As an added bonus, I happened to visit on a Sunday and was pleasantly surprised by a lively flea market nearby. I will say San Daniele vs Parma, 1:0.

Located in the heart of San Daniele, La Casa del Prosciutto - Alberti offers an exceptional experience for prosciutto enthusiasts. The staff's extensive knowledge and evident passion for their craft enhance the dining experience, making it both educational and enjoyable. The quality of the food is outstanding. The prosciutto, accompanied by fresh bread and a selection of local delicacies, is truly remarkable, providing a genuine taste of the region's culinary excellence. While the establishment maintains high standards in service and product quality, it does have a slightly tourist-oriented ambiance. This aspect may detract from the authentic, rustic charm that some visitors seek. Overall, La Casa del Prosciutto - Alberti is a must-visit for those looking to savor high-quality prosciutto in San Daniele. The dedication of the staff and the superior food quality make it a noteworthy destination, despite the minor observation regarding its atmosphere.

We booked the tour and it was amazing! The person make the tour interesting and we gained a lot of knowledge about the production of San Daniele. Then we had the tasting menu at their own installment and it was very delicious!
