Wild Rivers Paddle Saddle

This full-day adventure combines horseback riding, hiking, and rafting for a truly unique experience in the Rio Grande Del Norte National Monument. Guests begin their day at the Far Flung Boathouse at 8 am before being transported to the Rio Grande Stables for a two-hour guided horseback ride. The ride follows the rim of the Red River Canyon to its confluence with the Rio Grande Gorge, offering sweeping views of the canyon, towering ponderosa pines, and juniper forests. Along the way, riders may spot local wildlife and enjoy the quiet beauty of this remote southwestern landscape. The morning horseback ride sets the tone for an action-packed day in nature.

After the ride, participants will enjoy a delicious homemade lunch at the rim of the gorge while guides prepare the rafting equipment for the mile-long descent to the river’s edge. Guests then embark on a rafting trip through the pristine Middle Box section, navigating Class III rapids and exploring dramatic canyon scenery. Along the way, you can visit ancient Native American hunting sites and keep an eye out for wildlife, making this a perfect combination of adventure, culture, and nature. The day concludes around 4 pm with a return to the Far Flung Boathouse.
