The Rio Grande Middle Box two-day adventure offers an exceptional fly fishing and wilderness experience in one of New Mexico’s most remote and pristine canyon environments. Set within the Río Grande del Norte National Monument, this journey combines guided fishing, backcountry camping, and deep immersion in untouched high-desert landscapes.

The expedition begins with a scenic shuttle from the Far Flung Adventures Boathouse to the Cebolla Mesa trailhead. From there, guests embark on a one-mile downhill hike into the canyon, descending into the heart of a secluded river corridor where access is limited and solitude is abundant. Upon arrival, guides assist with camp setup and provide instruction tailored to fishing conditions in this nearly untouched fishery.

The Middle Box is renowned for its rich biodiversity, offering frequent sightings of river otters, large birds of prey, and herds of bighorn sheep along the canyon walls. The environment feels remote and undisturbed, creating an ideal setting for both fishing and quiet observation of wildlife.
