The Helen Woodward Animal Center offers a customizable animal encounter program designed for animal lovers of all ages. During the 60- to 90-minute program, participants can interact hands-on with a variety of animals, including furred, feathered, and scaled species, while learning about their behaviors and habitats. The experience is ideal for families, youth groups, 4H clubs, homeschool groups, playgroups, and even retirement homes. Guests will rotate through animal stations and activities, with each session tailored to the selected educational theme. While the program defaults to 60 minutes with three animals and one activity, the extended 90-minute program allows for four animals and one activity, providing a richer, more engaging experience. The program requires a minimum of six participants to run, though additional participants can join on the day.
Check-in takes place at the Lobby, where an assigned instructor will guide the group to the starting area. Guests are encouraged to bring water bottles and wear closed-toed shoes for safety and comfort. The program is fully accessible, including strollers and wheelchairs, though participants should note that walking and room changes may be adjusted for mobility needs. Children under 18 must be accompanied by chaperones, and all participants must be at least five years old to handle reptiles. Food is not provided onsite, though water refill stations are available. Animal species featured in the program may vary based on health, safety, and availability, ensuring that every visit is safe, educational, and memorable.
