Cincinnati Brewery Site Reveals Historic Legacy

The former Bruckmann Brewery complex in Cincinnati is opening a window into the city’s rich brewing heritage with a rare opportunity to explore one of the most complete 19th century brewery sites in the country. Brewing operations began at the location in 1856 and continued for nearly a century under the Bruckmann family, leaving behind a remarkable collection of historic structures.

The preserved complex features many original buildings, including the brewhouse, malthouse, bottling building, stables, family residence, power plant, and underground lagering cellars. These structures showcase the craftsmanship and industrial design of a time when Cincinnati played an important role in America’s brewing industry.

After brewing ended in 1950, the site continued to serve the community through different uses, including the Fountain Winery in the 1970s and later the Worthmore Food Products Company. Its changing identity reflects the adaptability of historic industrial spaces while maintaining a connection to Cincinnati’s cultural and economic history.

Through preservation efforts by the Brewing Heritage Trail, visitors now have the chance to step inside this significant landmark for the first time through public tours. Guests can explore historic buildings and underground cellars while discovering the stories, architecture, and traditions that shaped Cincinnati’s brewing legacy.
