The Pit is a spectacular giant sinkhole hidden within the lush jungle of Dos Ojos Park, offering one of the most dramatic and visually striking cenote dives in Mexico. This unique site is best known for its long vertical drop and for having the deepest known cave entrance in the region. As you descend, you’ll pass through layers of freshwater and saltwater, creating a mesmerizing halocline effect between 40 and 60 feet. The cavern ceiling is decorated with impressive stalactite formations, and at around 88 feet, divers encounter an eerie, cloud-like layer of hydrogen sulfide that gives the dive a surreal, almost otherworldly feel. Sunlight filtering through the opening creates dancing light beams that add to the mystical atmosphere, making every moment of the descent unforgettable.
This dive is designed exclusively for advanced divers seeking a thrilling and challenging experience. Entry into The Pit involves a steep and narrow descent, adding excitement right from the start. The dive continues down to approximately 135 feet, where the cavern darkens and the use of dive lights becomes essential. After completing this extraordinary dive, the adventure continues with a second, shallower cenote dive nearby, allowing you to relax and enjoy a different underwater landscape. Safety is always our top priority, with thorough briefings conducted before each dive and only top-quality, well-maintained equipment provided. Guided by experienced professionals, this dive promises not only a technical challenge but also one of the most memorable cenote diving experiences you can achieve.
