Rhino Encounter at the Zoo Offers Rare Close-Up Experience with Endangered Soman
A limited wildlife experience is giving visitors a rare opportunity to meet Soman, a male Greater One-horned Rhino, also known as the Indian Rhino. The 20-minute encounter allows guests to get closer than ever to one of the world’s most iconic and powerful animals in a controlled, educational setting.
During the session, participants can feed Soman his favorite treats and spend time near his habitat alongside trained animal keepers. Guests also learn about rhino care, behavior, and the species’ distinctive armor-like skin that makes it one of nature’s most remarkable mammals.
The experience places strong emphasis on conservation awareness, highlighting how Greater One-horned Rhinos have recovered from fewer than 200 individuals in the past century to around 4,000 in the wild today. Visitors are encouraged to engage with the educational aspects of the encounter while capturing memorable photos.
Encounters begin daily at 3 p.m. from Friday, May 5, weather permitting, with a maximum of 10 participants per session. The experience costs $50 per person, requires guests to be at least eight years old, and does not include zoo admission, which must be purchased separately.
