Rocky Mountain National Park felt surprisingly familiar to me as I am from Nepal. Some parts look like the landscapes of Upper Mustang, and other areas- with their red soil and rock formations- reminded me of western Nepal. Even the alpine lakes felt similar in their calm, reflective beauty. A stunning place that brought back pieces of home in unexpected ways.
Had a great experience here in November. Lots of wildlife and zero traffic being it’s out of season. It’s a beautiful park with lots of spectacular views and hiking. Plenty of spots to get away from people. For all of the people complaining about the reservation system- I get it. You came here and were disappointed. But do your research. You realize how many people want to see these parks? You need to plan better and make your reservation well in advance. I did that for my trip to glacier last year and had no issues. I know it’s a shame you can’t just drive in and be by yourself. If you want that, come in November.
Rocky Mountain National Park is one of the most breathtaking places on Earth. It has Estes Park on the east side to Grand Lake on the west, connected by the incredible Trail Ridge Road the highest continuous paved road in North America. Driving it feels like traveling through the clouds, with endless mountain views, alpine lakes, waterfalls, and wildlife all around you. When I visited, it was during the elk migration, and the experience was unreal. There were elk everywhere, and hearing them bugle through the valleys at dusk was something I’ll never forget. The scenery changes with every turn from lush forests and waterfalls to snow-dusted peaks and open tundra. And if you ever get the chance to go in the fall, do it. The aspen trees turn vibrant shades of gold, lighting up the entire park with color. It’s absolutely beautiful like nature’s own masterpiece!
