The Hot Water Beach Camp experience offers a unique opportunity to explore the remote and beautiful Te Rata Bay along the Tarawera Trail. Guests should park their vehicles at the Tarawera Trail Car Park if they plan to walk the trail before or after their stay. Camp gear and passengers must be dropped at the water taxi berth at Kariri Point Reserve as the van shuttle cannot carry both. The water taxi departs from Kariri Point Reserve and takes approximately 25 minutes to reach Hot Water Beach, providing a scenic and relaxing transfer. Campers should declare their gear when booking to ensure it travels safely with them. Cell phone coverage is limited along the trail and at the camp, so visitors should plan accordingly. During peak season, Hot Water Beach is shared with other visitors, adding a social and communal atmosphere to the experience.
Guests are required to bring all necessary camping gear, sufficient food and water for the length of their stay, and sunscreen. Additional costs apply for camp gear transfers, including fees for tramping packs, chill bins, tents, and unaccompanied items. The water taxi provides safe and all-weather travel to and from the camp, allowing guests to fully enjoy the natural beauty and geothermal features of the area without logistical concerns. This setup ensures a comfortable, adventurous, and memorable camping experience along the Tarawera Trail.

We absolutely love staying at Hot Water Beach Holiday Park, and a huge reason for that is Dean, the groundsman. Dean is truly the heart of this campground. He is kind, considerate, and always willing to help nothing is ever too much trouble. He goes above and beyond in ways that don’t go unnoticed. It’s rare to meet someone who genuinely cares about the people staying there the way he does. As a single mum camping with my young family and elderly parents in their 80s, camping can feel overwhelming at times. Dean makes it possible for us. His support, practical help, and calm, friendly presence mean we can actually relax and enjoy our time away together. Without him, we simply wouldn’t be able to come away camping as a family. He is, without question, the best thing about this campground and a huge part of what makes staying at Hot Water Beach so special. Thank you, Dean — you make all the difference.

Amazing camping area with hostel style rooms, camping areas and cabins to rent. The pool and dining areas were very nice with good options. The highlight is obviously renting a shovel and heading to the beach at low tide to feel the heat from the sand. Good hot showers to clean all of the sand after.

🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 A+++ EXPERIENCE — TRUE HOSPITALITY IN THE MIDST OF A STORM 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 We stayed at Hot Water Beach TOP 10 Holiday Park from January 19–22, 2026, together with my wife and our 1-year-old child — and what we experienced during those days is something we will never forget. During our stay, Coromandel was hit by severe and catastrophic weather, with sudden flooding across the peninsula — including areas surrounding the park. What could have been a frightening and stressful situation instead became a powerful example of what true customer service, leadership, and human compassion really look like. From the very beginning, Vivianne and her entire team were nothing short of extraordinary. They were hands-on, proactive, calm, and incredibly organised, ensuring that every single guest — with absolutely no one left behind — was safe, secure, warm, supported, and constantly well informed. Communication was clear, timely, and reassuring. At no point did we feel lost, vulnerable, or forgotten. What stood out most was this: 👉 They didn’t just manage the storm — they calmed the storm in our hearts. Even before the weather eased, our worries and fears were already settled because of the confidence, care, and genuine concern shown by the staff. The park itself was exceptionally clean, well maintained, and clearly run with strong systems in place. Beyond that, there was a beautiful sense of community — warm, respectful, and supportive — something that is rare and truly special. As parents travelling with a young child, feeling safe means everything — and this team delivered that and more. If we ever return to Coromandel for a holiday, there will be no hesitation at all — we will book Hot Water Beach TOP 10 Holiday Park again, knowing with complete confidence that our family is in excellent hands. If we could rate this place, it wouldn’t be 10/10 — ⭐ it would be well beyond that. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you to Vivianne and the entire Hot Water Beach TOP 10 Holiday Park team. You didn’t just provide accommodation — you provided care, leadership, safety, and humanity when it mattered most.

Stayed in the outback area, was not told at time of booking there were only Portaloos in that area, which during our stay 2 out of the 4 were out of order for most of our stay, the 2 in order rarely had toliet paper and were filthy dirty all for $40per adult a night for a non powered site and $22 per child. The main shower and toliet block were not very clean also. I understand it was peak season but they should have had more staff to accommodate the extra pressure on facilities. Definitely not worth the money and extremely disappointing for a Top 10 accomodation provider. Will not stay again!

Absolutely great place for families with Children for sure. The pool is a hit and spa pool. The bouncy balloon is great. The facilities (toilets and showers) could be more. The ratio for people vs toilets and showers isn't the best so expect a very long line. Definitely take your own cooking facilities and mini fridge, the fridge in our unit didnt work properly.
