E- Bike tour: Mountain Biking through Zapotec Communities + Mezcal

Join us at Coyote Adventures for a remarkable mountain biking journey across the cultural and natural wonders of Oaxaca. Our day begins with a warm welcome and an introduction to the experience, followed by a gentle ride through the historic center of the city. As we navigate its cobblestone streets, we admire beautiful churches, leafy parks, and colorful neighborhoods filled with murals that reflect the soul of Oaxaca through art and messages of social justice. Leaving the city behind, we continue toward the ancient Zapotec site of Dainzu, a place shaped by centuries of ritual life and athletic tradition. Riding through this sacred space on electric bikes allows guests to explore the landscape at their own rhythm while absorbing the stories, symbols, and legends shared by our guide. Surrounded by agave fields and open countryside, we feel the presence of a heritage that continues to shape everyday life in the region. The journey continues along rural tracks lined with mountains, flowers, and vast horizons until we arrive in the weaving community of Teotitlan del Valle. Here, we explore the village, visit its historic church, and pause for a picnic while taking in the atmosphere of a place where traditions are deeply rooted in language, food, music, dance, and ancestral knowledge. We then meet a family of artisans who continue the ancient art of weaving Zapotec tapestries, blending timeless symbolism with contemporary designs. Our final ride leads us to Santiago Matatlan, celebrated as the heart of mezcal culture, where a local family opens their home to offer a tasting and a traditional Oaxacan cocktail. As we learn the secrets of mezcal production and enjoy a comforting meal, the warmth of our hosts brings the journey full circle. With spirits uplifted and memories gathered, we return to Oaxaca carrying the essence of the region’s living culture and its promising future.
