The GPT Express is a dedicated hiking shuttle service that travels the full length of the Grampians Peaks Trail, running from Dunkeld to Mount Zero. Its route and schedule are planned to move hikers from south to north, allowing you to enjoy the trail in the recommended direction from north to south. This service offers a convenient and reliable way to access different sections of the trail without the hassle of arranging complex transport.
For most hikers, the smartest approach is to leave your car at the endpoint of your walk and use the GPT Express to reach your starting location on day one. This ensures a relaxed and pressure free finish to your hike, knowing your vehicle, supplies, and comforts are waiting for you when you complete the trail. This setup provides flexibility, peace of mind, and an overall smoother hiking experience.

The Halls Gap Visitor Information Centre is the perfect starting point for anyone spending time in the Grampians. Conveniently located right on the main street in Halls Gap, the centre provides a wealth of resources that make planning your trip easy. Inside you’ll find shelves full of brochures, maps, and guides covering everything from walking trails and waterfalls to local restaurants, cafés, wineries, and accommodation. There are also displays highlighting the natural and cultural heritage of the region, which add some great context before heading out to explore. What stood out most for us was the staff, knowledgeable, approachable, and always happy to share tips on the best lookouts, family-friendly activities, or hidden gems you might otherwise miss. They answered our questions thoroughly and even suggested a few lesser-known hikes that turned out to be highlights of our trip. The visitor centre itself is modern, clean, and well laid out, with clear maps of the surrounding area and up-to-date event listings. If you’re planning to spend a few days (or longer) in the Grampians, I’d highly recommend stopping in here first. It’s the best way to make sure you’ve ticked off all the key points of interest and are fully prepared to enjoy everything this stunning region has to offer.

Very ordinary experience. I'm bringing up to 25 people into the town in a couple of months and called to see if they could give us some information packs. Was told to just go online. Upon further enquiry found they do have a map of the area for sale for $4. Can I get some free maps then please.....no...they are $4. Can't help you any further. While the lady wasn't rude she was just plain unhelpful and uninterested in trying to help me in my way. Great welcome to the town 🙄

The staff was very helpful and gave us some great advice on where we could visit and advised to fit in a short walk , even though it rained a little and we were not disappointed. Thanks again for your advice
