Had a brilliant week-long stay at Sentido Galomar. Can’t recommend enough. All of the staff we interacted with were very friendly and helpful. We checked in on a Sunday afternoon and despite being early our room was available so we could go straight up. Although we booked a double sea view room we found we’d been given a suite which we couldn’t have been happier with! The whole hotel including the room was clean and still felt like new. The cleaning staff came each morning and did a great job. We had a bed and breakfast package through Jet2. Breakfast was served in the Atlantic Restaurant overlooking the ocean. Food selection was good with a mixture of hot options, cold meats and cheeses, yoghurts and cereals, pastries, bread, and a live omelette bar. All tasted good and staff kept things topped up. Our highlight though was the spa. This sold the hotel to us beforehand and lived up to expectations. It features 2 saunas differing in temperature but both with a great view over the coast, a steam room, infrared sauna, and lots of sun beds. Better than a lot of other spas we’ve been to and it was all included. As with the rest of the hotel, it felt spotless and like new. Location-wise, the hotel is in the peaceful resort of Caniço, which although doesn’t have the best food and drink options itself, is only a 15 minute drive from Funchal. For us this was ideal. However without a rental car I can imagine it may feel a bit more out of the way. Only downsides for us were that the pool bar wasn’t open. So, if you wanted a drink or snack before the main bar opened at 15:00 you had to go to the main restaurant or out of the hotel. We assume this is due to the time of year. Once we realised this we just got some drinks from a local shop to bring with us when we were by the pool. Overall I would recommend the hotel to anyone who wants a relaxing stay with a great spa close to, but away from the hustle of, Funchal.

Decent Hotel but charges extra for everything. Fresh pool towel .. cost extra. Additional cushion, cost extra. No coffeemaker in the room. Want to weigh your bags? Cost extra. Hotel TV rents movies, cost extra. Cannot use your own subscription service. We had a seaview room on level with the swimming pool in front of our terrace. No privacy. Changing room? Cost extra.

Lovely hotel - can't fault anything. All members of staff have been polite and attentive. We've felt very looked after whilst here. On the whole the food choices were satisfactory and the standard of food was very good. We stayed B&B, but ate from the pool bar at lunch a couple of days. The location is great. Casino de Baixo is lovely, shops for essentials near by, and a lovely walk by the sea down to thy old fort. The local bus takes you into Funchal for 2.60€ pp, in around 30 minutes. Buses are regular. We would definitely recommend this hotel.
