The PADI Discover Scuba Diving experience at the Solitary Islands Marine Park is a two-day program designed for anyone who has always wanted to try scuba diving. The course begins with short online theory that can be completed at home, introducing participants to basic scuba principles, safety procedures, and equipment familiarization. Upon arrival, participants join a confined water pool session led by experienced PADI instructors, where they practice essential skills such as mask clearing, regulator use, and buoyancy control in a safe and controlled environment. This initial training builds confidence and prepares participants for their first open water dives. The course is ideal for beginners who want a guided, hands-on introduction to the world of scuba diving while learning from highly trained professionals in a small group setting.
After the pool session, participants complete two guided ocean dives at the Solitary Islands Marine Park aboard world-class dive boats. These dives allow participants to experience the thrill of exploring vibrant marine life and underwater landscapes under the direct supervision of PADI instructors. Full equipment hire is included, and small group training ensures personalized attention and a safe learning experience. Dives are subject to weather and availability, and the course is scheduled over two consecutive days by default, though the second day can be rescheduled if necessary. Participants must be able to swim 200 meters or snorkel 300 meters and stay afloat or tread water for ten minutes. Medical fitness is required, and pregnant individuals are not permitted to dive. This course offers a safe, exciting, and educational introduction to scuba diving.

I've only given 3 stars for the simple reason I wasn't impressed in having to haul our hired cylinders off the boat up slippy steep steps into our cars and transport them to the shop and then return and take them down the steps back onto the boat, Phew! Sweat on, knackered before I dive! I could have a bend or slip and break something! I certainly think the boat would benefit from a compressor, it would have helped if they had transported and returned the cylinders in their own vehicle. It would make things so much easier and pleasurable. Rather than making it feel like a working holiday. OK so I'm not a young whipper snapper but I think I'm reasonably fit for a mature person, a few knocks and bangs here and there. To finish off the day we had their accomodation above the shop to scale. More steps, boo boo. Not bad when you get up there, a bit tired but OK, has everything you need. So I've done a bit of moaning, apologies. Diving wise, it was brilliant although the weather was unpredictable and we lost a few days! Time we spent visiting the Island, fab. On the good days we had some really good dives, clear waters, seals nibbling at your fins, so much life, shoals of fish. Plenty of different sites to visit out of Port St Mary so if you can't get on one then there is always another. The boat was a typical dive boat with a lift at the rear, good and solid, well skippered and managed. Overall I enjoyed the experience, if I was to return to the IOM I might think about accomodation on the ground floor and look for a boat with an on board compressor or at least assistance to haul the cylinders around.

They gave me a a dry suit with holes in it. I didn’t realise until I’d left the shop. I ended up having to borrow someone else’s. Not only did they not give a refund, but they blamed it on me and said I’m lucky they’re not making me pay for damages. Next time I went, they again tried to give me a dry suit with holes in it.

Fantastic dive shop with knowledgeable staff and superb instructors. They have everything from snorkels to rebreathers. If you are starting your journey or are looking for further training, Discover Diving is "THE" place to go on the Isle of Man. Go check em out!

The best dive shops I've been to, even the ones in the UK don't come up to this. Friendly service and skilled knowledgeable staff who help rather than just sell you something. Can't rate it enough.

Great place to learn all about diving. Friendly and welcoming as always.
