The Scuba Diving Refresher Course at the Solitary Islands Marine Park is a two-day program designed to help certified divers regain confidence and refresh essential skills before returning to open water. The course begins with a pool session where participants practice important techniques such as mask clearing, regulator retrieval, and equipment setup and checks. This controlled environment allows divers to reacquaint themselves with the skills required for safe and enjoyable diving, while receiving guidance from experienced instructors. After building confidence in the pool, participants transition to a guided double dive at the Solitary Islands Marine Park, applying their refreshed skills in a real ocean setting while exploring vibrant marine life and stunning underwater landscapes. The course is ideal for anyone who has not dived for a while and wants to ensure a safe and confident return to the water.
The program includes full equipment hire and snacks on board during the dive days, including hot water for tea, coffee, or cup-a-soup and small servings of biscuits, with vegetarian soups available. Dives are guided by the Jetty Dive team, with the option of a private divemaster if specific circumstances require, which may incur additional charges. By default, the course is scheduled over two consecutive days, but the second day can be rescheduled if necessary. All ocean dives are subject to weather and availability, and proof of prior dive certification is required. This refresher course ensures divers feel confident, safe, and fully prepared for enjoyable underwater adventures.

I had an absolutely fantastic weekend doing my orientation dive (and fun dives) with Ocean Divers at Killary Fjord! From the moment I arrived every member of staff and all the other divers were incredibly welcoming, friendly and helpful. The atmosphere was supportive and relaxed, making it easy to feel comfortable even if you’re just starting out like me (10 dives previously). There were a lot of divers, but each in small groups with their own dive master or dive instructor and grouped together in the OW/AOW courses or fun dives. While I had already done my OW elsewhere, I’ll definitely be doing the advanced course and further dives with these guys as the level of dedication and commitment that goes into making their students be successful divers is visible. Bring a bit of patience for the initial response period if you reach out during a very busy time - it‘s hard to respond when you’re always in the water 😄 but I honestly can’t recommend them enough if you’re looking to become a good diver and explore Irelands underwater world with a genuinely lovely group of people.

I’m doing the drysuit diver course with Oceandivers at the moment. I was having trouble getting my buoyancy right, so had six pool sessions to get it right at no extra charge!! What a crew Oceandivers have. There was no pressure, just take your time and get it right. Dan is always on hand to help you out and the rest of the lads are so helpful. I had my first sea dive for the buoyancy certification today off Dalkey island. It was fantastic!! The extra lessons really paid off. I cannot recommend the Oceandivers crew highly enough. It is and has been a pleasure working with Oceandivers to get my drysuit certification. Can’t wait to get back in the water with the crew!!

Did my Open Water course with Ocean Divers and couldn’t have asked for a better experience – especially on the trip out to Killary Harbour. Alan and Dan are absolute legends. They keep things calm, clear, and enjoyable from start to finish, and they’ve got a brilliant way of building your confidence without overcomplicating anything. Killary was a cracking spot to dive, and the lads made sure everyone got the most out of it, no matter their level. The whole vibe was relaxed but totally professional – you always felt in safe hands. Already looking forward to coming back for my Advanced course.
