This was a ten day Grand Classical Tour of Greece offered by Epos Travel of Tripolis, Greece. It was a spectacular tour led by guide extraordinaire Argiris. It incorporated classical antiquity, mythology, breath taking nature, and excellent food. The pace was good and the lodging welcoming and local. From sunset at Meteora to the grave of Agamemnon at Mycenae, from childhood haunts of Alexander the Great to the early married life of Menelaus and Helen(of Troy) we experienced a rich and varied plot line. Epos travel has an excellent moral compass that honors the tradition of the classical philosophers. We were well served in all respects.
My husband and I booked the 4-day “Wine Roads” tour with EPOS and really enjoyed it. We were a little hesitant at first to make the booking (since there wasn’t a lot of info about them online), but after taking the tour in May, we highly recommend this itinerary for anyone interested in the history, beautiful towns, and cuisine of the Peloponnese. This review is for that specific tour, but EPOS offers many other itineraries and has other guides who lead them. We were the only people who booked the tour on the date, so this ended up being a private tour for just us with a very safe driver and our guide, George, who is basically a guru when it comes to this area of mainland Greece. We followed 80% of the itinerary listed on their website but did modify a couple of stops based on weather and some options George gave us. So one thing to note if you are booking a tour with them is to be sure and state which sites/activities you are most interested in (to make sure you get there). Yes, we could have rented a car and driven ourselves around the peninsula, but it was so nice to not have to figure out where to stay, eat and park. The hotels were in great locations (e.g., the heart of Monemvasia and old town in Nafplio) and George helped with ordering foods at small tavernas for meals (so much food!). We were able to visit some small wineries that we never would have found and taste wines we cannot purchase at home, but do know that this is not a wineries tour – the itinerary leans more towards the ancient sites (e.g., Olympia and Epidavros) and history of the area with opportunities to try wines at meals and one winery per day. Because of regulations in Greece, George could not give us guided tours within the historical sites (because of the licensed guides who work there) but he was able to tell us about the sites before we got to each one and then was happy to answer all our questions and have discussions about what we saw. He is very passionate about this area and loves to show it to visitors! If you are someone who is already knowledgeable about ancient Greek history and mythology, this is the guide and tour for you. We didn’t remember much about these subjects from our time at school, but still really enjoyed exploring the sites and learning more about them. May was the perfect time to go because the weather was great (not too hot) and the sites were not yet crowded. Whenever we return to Greece we will be sure to book another tour with Epos!

One of the most wonderful and adventurous experiences we’ve ever lived! A 7-day trip to the most beautiful sites and locations in Peloponnese! Everything was perfectly organised giving us the chance to explore and spend quality time with our family and friends!
