PADI Deep Diver Course: Exploring Beyond Recreational Depths
The PADI Deep Diver course is designed to equip divers with the knowledge and skills required to safely explore deeper recreational limits, extending diving experience beyond 18 metres and up to a maximum depth of 40 metres. It focuses on careful dive planning, gas management, buoyancy control, and understanding the effects of depth on both the body and the environment.
A key component of the training is learning to recognise and manage nitrogen narcosis, as well as using redundancy systems to enhance safety during deeper dives. Under instructor supervision, divers develop the confidence and discipline needed to handle the additional risks associated with increased depth.
The course begins with PADI eLearning, allowing participants to complete theoretical study at their own pace before progressing to practical training. This is followed by a minimum two-day in-water component that includes theory review and four open-water boat dives in real conditions.
During these dives, participants practise controlled descents, deep-water buoyancy control, safety stops, and the use of redundant air systems. Divers also observe how depth affects colour perception, marine life appearance, and cognitive performance, providing valuable real-world insight into the unique challenges and rewards of deep diving.
