The PADI Divemaster course is designed for divers who want to take their passion for the ocean to a professional level. It teaches you how to lead underwater tours, assist with scuba classes, and inspire others to care for the marine environment, while honing your skills to become a highly competent and respected diver. The program includes comprehensive e-learning, independent workshops, and practical experience, including working directly with students on Open Water, Advanced, and Rescue courses, as well as assisting on general boat trips.
While the course can be completed in an intensive two-week format, many candidates choose a longer internship model, lasting three to six months, to gain hands-on experience and industry-ready skills. Full-time Divemasters in Australia earn a starting salary of around $52,000 per year, with casual positions paying a minimum of $31 per hour, along with additional benefits like flex-time and leave loading. The certification also opens pathways to become a PADI Instructor, while Junior Divemaster programs allow motivated younger divers to start gaining experience from the age of 15.
