This engaging coastal experience invites you to discover the rich history and breathtaking scenery that define Madeira Island. Your journey begins in the historic heart of Funchal, where narrow streets and timeworn buildings reveal stories dating back to the fifteenth century. As you travel east, you will stop at the stunning Pinaculo Viewpoint, a place cherished by locals for its sweeping views over the bay of Funchal. This is the perfect moment to take in the dramatic landscape and capture the beauty of the island.
Continuing toward the small coastal village of Garajau, you will encounter one of Madeira’s most iconic monuments, the Christ the King statue. This Art Deco masterpiece stands proudly above the sea and offers inspiring views that extend to the Desertas Islands on clear days. The journey then descends to the Garajau nature reserve, a protected marine sanctuary known for its crystal clear waters and rich biodiversity. Whether you arrive by cable car or tuk tuk, the scenery is unforgettable. The tour concludes in Funchal or at another mutually agreed location.

Christ the King in Madeira is a beautiful statue of Jesus Christ that overlooks the Atlantic Ocean from a dramatic cliff on the island’s south coast. The Cristo Rei of Garajau is a statue of Jesus Christ with open arms, facing the ocean — very similar in style to the famous Christ the Redeemer in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil (though it’s actually older). It symbolizes peace, faith, and protection for sailors and the people of Madeira.Situated in Garajau, on the southern coast of Madeira, about 15–20 minutes from Funchal by car.

Must see in Lisbon. Spectacular to see in person. Tickets are cheap and the views from the top are fantastic. Would definitely recommend checking out! Great souvenir shop as well with surprisingly decent pricing.

Lovely place for views, the religious connection is obvious. This statue is older than the one in Rio so worth the visit if you are Catholic/ religious

What a magnificent monument! It’s reminiscent of Christ the Redeemer in Rio de Janeiro but with a clone of the Golden Gate Bridge right next door. Yes, go on the grounds, but don’t forget to look around the area for even better views of this magnificent statue. What has been is a beautiful city, and sometimes dominates the skyline from across the river.

Beautiful statue overlooking the ocean. Stairs take you down a path so you can see the statue on all sides. Easy hike. I think there are about 200 stairs. Beautiful views of the ocean and coast line. It's an iconic spot to see when visiting Madeira. It is free to park and to enter the pathway.
