I’m not into touring monuments, crowds, lines, tourists or tours. However, I enjoyed my 30 or 40 minutes at Castel Sant’ Angelo on a beautiful day in February. The crowds were on their tour busses somewhere else, and the castel itself was fun to stroll through, checking out both the fortifications and the opulence. Photo opportunities from the top floors were inspiring. Work up an appetite at Castel Sant’ Angelo and walk into the Centro Storico for lunch at Coline Emilane.

An absolute gem. I was initially interested due to my ancient history background considering the Mausoleum of Hadrian. While it now is only a shell of what it once was, it still provides an interesting part in history. However, the truly best part are the views from the top of the Mausoleum! You have breathtaking views towards the St.Peter's Basilica among others. As you can see in the adjacent photographs. Furthermore, there's a bar on top of the Mausoleum, where one can drink and enjoy the views. (Have in mind the prices are not particularly cheap, for comparison an Aperol Spritz costs 15€). Also, please buy the tickets online, there's not usually a big crowd but it's so much faster to get in! Thank you for reading!

The Castel Sant'Angelo is one of those places in Rome that leaves an immediate impression. The castle is incredibly powerful and imposing. Just walking across Ponte Sant’Angelo, lined with its beautiful angel statues, already sets the mood perfectly. You can truly feel the history—knowing that this structure has existed since ancient times, first as a mausoleum and later as a fortress and a refuge for the popes. Once you reach the top, you’re rewarded with a stunning view over Rome. The panorama of the Tiber and the Vatican is simply magnificent. Everything feels calm, dignified, and at the same time deeply impressive.
