The region was really heavily damaged by the October 2025 hurricane and the destruction was evident everywhere we went. Almost every building in the town of Black River was damaged or destroyed. The Black River Safari lost 4 of their 6 boats, but still had two operational as of February 2026 to take us out. We saw several types of birds and three crocodiles on our 1 hour river trip. I get the idea the mangrove forests were much more impressive before the hurricane damage but they were still interesting to see. Worth going to help support the region recover economically from the hurricane.
Ethan

Great time, saw plenty of crocodiles and learned a lot from our guide. Even got to drive the boat for a while.

The Black River Safari tour was a great experience & I'd recommend it to anyone who wants a SAFE thrill. We arrived not knowing what to expect but the receptionist explained the tour which alleviated all fears. The tour lasts for 1 h 15 mins & is split into 2 sections (1 hour on a decent sized boat which depends on the crew size & 15 mins in the nursery). During our tour we met crocodiles which the tour guide fed & sometimes stroke, wild birds that prey on baby crocodiles & some fishes. The tour guide was very knowledgeable & embraced all questions, we definitely got a history lesson too. The nursery houses small turtles & baby crocodiles that are unable to hunt . Great experience & would recommend it to all.

I enjoyed my time on the water and learning about the flora and fauna native to Jamaica. Some parts felt like Narnia in real life. I found the upside down hanging trees pretty fascinating and the vastness of the water with both mountain and forest views were particularly captivating. The staff were welcoming. There’s a snack store onsite which seemed to be on the expensive side. The “nursery” with the baby crocodiles and turtles were rather underwhelming and high key concerning. The water they’re being nursed in was very dirty and looked unkept.

Great experience. Tour guides are fantastic. Their knowledge is great. You get to see crocodiles up close and are able to hold them in the nursery. Approx 2 hours in total for the whole tour and good for all ages
