Leave behind the bustle of Dublin and journey north to County Meath, where the tranquil Irish countryside unfolds into the ancient Boyne Valley, one of Europe’s largest megalithic sites and a filming location for Braveheart.
Set within 1,500 acres of rolling parkland, Slane Castle has been home to the Conyngham family since the 18th century. In 2017, Henry Conyngham and his son Alex established the Slane Distillery beside the castle, creating their signature Slane Irish Whiskey.
Tour the distillery nestled within historic stables, discover the family’s legacy, and learn the craft of whiskey-making from grain to glass. Enjoy an Irish Coffee and a guided tasting that reveals the art of blending Slane’s rich, smooth flavor.
After lunch at a local pub (at guests’ cost), continue to Boann Distillery, a family-run enterprise founded by Patrick and Marie Cooney and their children. With decades of experience in the Irish drinks industry, the Cooneys have created award-winning whiskeys under The Whistler label.
Enjoy an exclusive pre-opening tour led by a Cooney family member, complete with a tutored tasting of their celebrated expressions.

Jacques

My favorite whiskey experience in Ireland. We visited Boann Distillery today and had an incredible experience. Marco gave us a fantastic tour — he walked us through every step of the distillation process and the different casks used for aging, explaining everything with genuine passion and knowledge. We also had the chance to taste several whiskeys and pot stills, each with its own unique character. The distillery is family-owned and operated, and you can really feel that pride and care in everything they do. It was easily my favorite whiskey experience in Ireland — highly recommended to anyone who enjoys Irish whiskey or wants to see true craftsmanship in action.

What an awesome tasting experience. Thanks so much Marco for such an awesome tour. Got to taste a few whiskies that aren't yet available back home in Cape Town. A great example of local business producing a great product. Well done guys.

Excellent opportunity to see a very interesting insight into Irish whiskey production. The staff are really passionate, educated and skilled at this craft which shows in the quality of the site and finished products.

Highly recommend! Walked in, met the owner (Patrick)- a wonderful gentleman who introduced us to Harry, and he was awesome! He talked about the process and was extremely informative. Definitely has a passion for distillation. Walked out with a few bottles. Well worth a drive!

We stopped here whilst visiting Dublin, as big fans of The Whistler Whiskies. This is a working distillery with no visitor centre or tour program currently. You are able to buy bottles of whiskey from the reception though. We popped inside to be curious and we warned that there wasn’t much else they could do for us. However, Alex the head distiller was passing and came back to talk with us. He then took us on a walk amongst the working pot stills and gave us a very informative impromptu tour! We were very lucky that he was gracious enough to give us a look round, however we can’t advise anyone to try thier luck like we did! -you may be turned away and disappointed. Fear not! Alex did say that they are in the process of building and designing a visitor centre, which will include tastings, tours and maybe a more. They’re aiming for very early/mid 2025 for this to be operational. Additionally, the first expressions made at this Boann Distillery are now reaching the 3-4year old maturation in thier warehouse on site. Thus, it may not be long before we see whiskies other than new make spirit from Boann! Most of the casks Alex had a hand in distilling too! Will definitely look to return once visitor center opens and would like to thank Alex once again for his time and kindness!
