We invite you to discover Setúbal, one of Portugal’s most important centers for the fishing industry. Begin your journey at the bustling Mercado do Livramento, a vibrant fish market at the heart of the city, where the fresh catch of the day is a testament to Setúbal’s maritime heritage. Explore the historic center, visit the Convento de Jesus, classified as a National Monument, and continue to Forte de São Felipe, where you can admire one of the most breathtaking panoramic views of the city and its surroundings. This cultural and historical exploration provides a unique insight into the traditions and beauty of this coastal Portuguese city.
From Setúbal, embark on a vibrant 25-minute ferry ride to Comporta, the best way to take in the stunning Troia coast, the longest in Europe and seventh longest in the world, stretching 65 km of uninterrupted sand. It is common to spot dolphins along this scenic route. Upon arrival in Comporta, a highly protected natural reserve, you will enjoy a guided horseback ride through rice paddies, pine forests, and dunes, culminating at the sandy Atlantic coast. Riding across Europe’s largest beach while surrounded by such spectacular landscapes offers a once-in-a-lifetime experience, combining adventure, nature, and the serene beauty of Portugal’s unspoiled coastline.

Usually I never review a place but comparing being there personally and reding some reviews here I had to tell something. I booked my tour though a booking app, i payed and when I got there is was pouring rain. I didn't want to do the tour but the money was already gone. They could say "ups can't do anything about" (like in other places I've been) because the decision of not going was mine. Instead they tried to manage their agenda with my availability. Joana and Lourenço were amazing. I did my tour 2 days after and OMG what an amazing tour!!! First we were "received" by the recepcionist Delta. Joana's dog super friendly and brave, she goes on the tour and she protects us! The horses like her and they are all very used to each other. Joana told that she had no training, its all instinct. I simply love it. I rode iguazu a lovely horse, he knows the way and follows the guide's horse. For me it was perfect because i was afraid at the beginning. The forest was amazing, smelling good because of the rain, it felt very nice to be able to breathe the nature. Then the beach was breathtaking... ALL OURS! Joana told us that the photographer works by request but that she could take me some photos with her phone. (she also took photos of the others). The tour had more clients but i was the only one talking to Joana. She has a passion about this job and all this horses! It was very pleasant to get to know her a bit. In a big resume, some reviews here might appeared from unlucky people/experiences or simply "you get what you give" situation. If you are a bad person dont expect the world to give you a handshake and a piece of cake🤷♀️ Personally, my experience with this company couldn't be more perfect. Joana Lourenço, Delta and Iguazu thank you for having me. I will come back with friends and family 🫶
BUSINESS

The beach itself? Stunning. That’s the only reason this place gets even one star. But everything else about Horses by the Beach was a total trainwreck. The area where we were supposed to meet and prep was fit for animals, no bathrooms, and absolutely nothing like the photos online. Totally disgusting and the worst staff ever. The horses looked underwhelmed, and honestly, so were we. The worst part? They promised a refund after acknowledging how bad the experience was. That refund never came. The owner dodged calls, made up excuses about needing to “check with his boss,” and then vanished. Turns out, this is a pattern as other reviewers have had the same issue. It’s shady and dishonest. I don’t know how this place has positive reviews unless they’re fake or written by people who only saw the beach and skipped the nightmare behind the scenes. If you’re thinking of booking, admire the beach from afar and find a reputable company. This one is truly horrible.

Amazing experience, well behaved horses and incredible views on the beach. My sister and I loved our time and couldn’t have asked for more. 😊 Also the included transfer from the city was fantastic and was nice and close to our accommodation. 10/10

What a wonderful experience, I highly recommend booking. The horses are lovely and well behaved and the guide is very professional. You start through beautiful woods that lead to the beach. We did the ride at 17:30 and the sun was perfect, lovely weather and it was setting over the ocean. Great way to relax and get back in touch with nature.
Bianca

Best experience with the best guide and the most beautiful horses. One of the most memorable parts of my trip to Portugal!
Carla

Our day trip was amazing! You get your moneys worth, we had about 2 hours horse riding and some free time in the morning to see Setubal, our driver was amazing and very friendly and overall would recommend. The views whilst horse riding were beautiful, worth every penny.
Rebecca

Amazing experience! Artur (driver) and Maria (horsebackriding guide) were such generous, informative and communicative hosts and guides. We felt so safe and comfortable and loved getting to see the beach and surrounds from such a wild perspective. Extra cool was getting to run the horses and even witness a proposal. Thanks Maria and artur for such a special time!!!
Anna

I had a great time, Maria was excellent and tailored each persons experience to their riding level. I've been riding for 20 years so I was able to gallop on the beach and my partner who has never ridden before was able to experience a slower pace. The free time in Setubal was nice, we visited the market and purchased fruit and pastries to eat later and visited a nearby church/convent

Good transport (however a little late at the meeting point), nice horses, competent and experienced guide on horse. I would definitively book it again.

I would really recommend this activity. Our tour guide Tom was amazing. He was very knowledgeable and provided expert assistance, tips and overall guidance. He also provided us with a bottle of water and a traditional treat which was duly appreciated. The horse riding experience was great value for money; we spent around 1.5 hours horseback riding and enjoying the amazing scenery along the woods and beach. Maria, the horse riding guide, was very professional and made sure we were comfortable all throughout the activity (especially given that this was our first time riding horses). The horses were also very professionally trained. I would not miss this activity if around Lisbon!
