Ice Climbing Day in Korouoma Canyon – from Rovaniemi

Korouoma is a millions-of-years-old fracture valley in the bedrock, forming a spectacular gorge that plunges over 100 meters below the surrounding terrain. Every winter, 10–20 ice falls appear, with the tallest reaching 60–70 meters. The most famous is Ruskea Virta (“Brown Stream”), alongside other iconic climbs like Mammutti (“Mammoth”) and Jaska Jokunen (“Charlie Brown”). Although its ice climbing potential was only discovered in the 1980s, Korouoma has since become the premier destination for ice climbing in Finland.
