We didn’t do the full Valbona–Theth hike, but we decided to walk for a couple of hours anyway. Loved the trail — the changing vegetation, mountain views, and variety of trees made it really beautiful.

A bit busy, but a nice trail. Some refreshments available half way the top on both sides. It is easier to walk from Valbona to Theth then the other way around. This is because Valbona is at 1000m height and Theth at 750m height.

Beautiful point to point hike. Stunning views and good effort to views trade off. Did Theth to Valbona one day and then Valbona to Theth the next in August 2025. Moving time around 4hrs both ways and total time around 6hrs with stops. The path is not extremely well marked but there is often only one clear route to follow so hard to get lost. We did it in regular trainers, no poles with small backpacks. Going downhill on both sides has slippery parts due to dustiness and loose rocks in summer but we felt we were going the same speed as people with full hiking gear. There are two cafes selling cold and hot drinks and some food items with great views - both of these are on the Theth side. Valbona to Theth. If you are only going to do one way, this is the easier hike. The climb is steep and sun soaked but short making it easier to do early in the hike. The way down is more gradual and mostly shaded by forest. You also get the cafes to take in the view and give your knees a break form the descent! Theth to Valbona. This way is also fine and not much harder. The climb has 2 steeper sections and goes on for much longer but it is mostly through shaded forest. The way down feels quick but is harder due to the more aggressive slope on the Valbona side. Going both ways. We did this because the road to Theth is much more developed and the town itself has slightly more going on. It is also better connected to continue your journey travelling Albania. We have decent fitness but are no means mountaineers and found doing the hike there and back over 2 days completely fine.

It took us around 7 hours to hike from Valbone to Theth. We were going at a leisurely pace, taking in the surrounds and taking lots of rest breaks. Strava said we were moving for 4.5 of those 7 hours. Unbelievably picturesque views, loved the scenery and tranquility of this untouched landscape. Very much recommend starting in Valbone as this is the steep, harder part and it is more in the sun, while the theth side is more in the shade and easier. It gets hot in summer. bring water and snacks. You can fill up your water at cafes along the way. It is very rocky for the first half and very narrow and steep in some parts so take your time and be careful. We tried to stay closer to the start of the trail, otherwise some accommodations can add another hour to your walk. The start of the trail from Valbone wasn’t super clear, you are walking along what seems like random rocks for a kilometre or two. We did it in runners, which was doable, but wish we had hiking boots and sticks. Also highly recommend downloading the Maps.me app so you can have the trail downloaded and follow it in case you get lost. It wasn’t as clearly marked as I expected.

Moderate difficulty but the trail is intresting and well marked. The view is amazing and well worth it. Been hiking from Teth to Valbona, from start it is a bit steep and after reaching the top you will slowly go down and down.
