This was our first visit to Madeira and we were very keen to do some walking especially the Levadas, but with so many walks available we did not where to start! We also wanted a private guide, not a large group. This is where Up Mountain Madeira came up trumps. Nico replied to our initial enquiry straight away, suggested lots of options and we agreed on what we wanted to do. David our guide was fantastic. He met us at our hotel and everything was brilliantly organised. David was extremely knowledgeable and informative and great fun to be with. He knew lots of places where we could miss the crowds, and enjoy some peaceful and stunning walks. I would highly recommend Up Mountain Madeira to anyone wanting a guide. They will show you places off the beaten track and give you the local knowledge about the island. Thank you David and Nico for the two best days of our holiday and we will certainly be back again to do more exploring with you.

I cannot say enough good things about UpMountain Madeira. Nico and Bennie were the perfect guides. They were extremely helpful and they adjusted well when I could not find the pick up point. The hike we did was like no place I have ever hiked before. Bennie was exceptionally knowledgeable about Madeira including the geology, plant and animal life. He was an excellent conversationalist. I would highly recommend these guys over the big companies on the island. They tailored a hike for me that was more to my experienced hiking level and we were on trails with almost no other people. They are genuinely excited to share their island with their clients. At the end of the trip they shared many recommendations of things to see and places to eat.

We did the sunrise peak tour with David. David was engaging with all, proud of his country and shared many details along the way. We are in Madeira for another week and he gave us more great ideas for dinner, sunsets and hikes. It was a gorgeous morning and honestly, nothing can compare to the sunrise at the Stairway to Heaven. After hiking that, we stopped for some coffee and then hiked up to PR 1.2. On the way back we stopped by Santana. 10/10 would recommend!

I recently took the Peak to Peak Sunrise alternative route with Renaldo (because of the fire), and it was absolutely incredible, amazing, and magical! I wanted to take a moment to let you know how much I appreciated him as a guide. He was knowledgeable, thoughtful, engaging, and made the whole experience truly memorable. I learned so much about the local flora and fauna, and his passion for the area really came through. Everything from pickup to drop off was smooth and stress free, with no issues at all regarding the itinerary or logistics. Thank you for an unforgettable experience, one I will carry with me for a lifetime. The pictures are worth a thousand words...

Just finished three amazing days of tours with UpMountain and couldn’t be happier! Tobias guided us on the East and West island tours — super knowledgeable, funny, and even took us to one of his favorite local lunch spots (delicious!). David led our sunrise hike from Pico do Arieiro to Pico Ruivo and brought such great energy and insight. Both went out of their way to show us hidden gems beyond our itinerary. Huge thanks to Nico for being so communicative and helpful from the start — even accommodating a last-minute change due to flight issues. Top-notch service and unforgettable experience. Obrigada, UpMountain!
