The airport is clean, modern, and very well maintained. I was impressed by the spacious terminals, the friendly staff, and how smoothly everything was managed. The design of the building really stands out — a perfect mix of traditional Sri Lankan charm and modern architecture. I also loved the little cultural touches, like local art and decorations that remind you of the country’s heritage even before or after you step outside. The view around the airport is also quite beautiful. Seeing planes taking off and landing against the backdrop of the tropical sky felt special — it’s that little moment of wonder that makes traveling so enjoyable. I even captured a few clips for my travel video because the lights, sounds, and overall vibe were worth remembering. Overall, my visit to Bandaranaike International Airport was awesome — calm, organized, and filled with that travel spirit I always enjoy. Overall, it was a pretty decent. The airport felt organized and easy to get around, and the staff were genuinely friendly and welcoming — that warm Sri Lankan hospitality really shows. From check-in to baggage claim, everyone was polite and helpful, which made the journey smoother. That said, there were a few downsides. Immigration took quite a while since there were very few officers on duty, and the queues were long. The washrooms also need a bit more attention in terms of cleanliness and maintenance. All in all, it’s a nice airport with a great atmosphere — just wish the immigration process and facilities were a bit better managed.
I am working in Thailand and usually travel from Trichy to Thailand with a transit at Colombo Airport. The transit experience is always very comfortable, and I really appreciate SriLankan Airlines for their excellent service. Mobile charging points are available, but Thailand-type adapters are not supported at the airport. The food and tea shops are good, and there are plenty of shops inside the terminal. Drinking water is also easily available along the way. Overall, it’s a very convenient airport for Indian travelers. I have transited through this airport many times — it offers many flight options to major destinations across India. The facilities are excellent, the service is great, and the staff are always friendly and helpful.
I recently visited Sri Lanka and went through Colombo Bandaranaike International Airport, and overall, it was a smooth experience. Arrivals: After collecting our luggage from the luggage claim belt, it was a little confusing at first to figure out where the exit area was located. The signs could’ve been clearer. Once we found our way out, there were quite a few shops near the exit, we even stopped by a small bakery to grab a few snacks, which was a nice touch. Departures: I spent more time here, so I can say the airport is medium-sized..not too big, not too small. The check-in and customs clearance process was surprisingly quick and efficient. The porter service was extremely helpful; our porter assisted us right from handling the luggage to guiding us through customs and up to the airline check-in counter. There’s also a baggage-wrapping service, which was convenient to see. The airport was very clean, including the washrooms, which I really appreciated. The duty-free area at departures had a nice variety of stores- from gemstone shops to telecom counters, souvenir stores, and even Domino’s and Costa Coffee. We also visited one of the lounges, and the food there was amazing..truly chef’s kiss! 🥹 Overall, both our arrival and departure experiences were pleasant and hassle-free. A lot of changes have occurred. In the immigration area, Sri Lankan Passport holders can now register for e-immigration, where they can first register and then complete the process. So then an officer will only stamp after everything is done by the citizen. Easier for Sri Lankans. Thank you for that move. Plus, a new self-check-in area is made for all flying Sri Lankan Airlines. Once again, a good step so passengers flying Sri Lankan Airlines will have less hassle and can self-check in. The only downside is that the food is kind of expensive. So, for passengers, eat well before coming 🤭. The Airport is very clean and tidy. Seating good. Plus, there is good and enough seating available in the required areas. Which is good. It is said that new constructions are on the way. Let's see how things roll. Good if we can make another runway (which is said to be planned as well), which will help navigate the air traffic better with minimum delays😌✨️. Whatsoever, at the end, my motherland ✨️😌.
