On friday 24st of october we did two different cooking classes at this restaurant. Both classes where very fun and we enjoyed every bit of it. The first class we took was the cooking class of how to make Cannoli. It was a class with a small group (a total of 3 persons, my friend and I and one nice lady from America). Chef Caramelo explained everything clearly to us and helped us through every step. He told us which ingrediënts we need to use and how much we needed. During the class he also took a few foto's and video's from us for us. Caramelo was very funny, helpful and clear at what he expected and needed to be done. At the end of the class we got to take our Cannoli with us. And Caramelo had a little surprise for us. A surprise that will come in handy when we want to make the Cannoli at home and don't know al the steps and ingrediënts anymore. The second class we took was the cooking class of making our own pizza. With this class we were in total with a group of 40 people. There was one wedding group (30 people) en five duo's. Chef Paulo was wearing a microphoon and one of his collegues was wearing the box. By using this method everyone could hear Paulo very good and knew what they had to do. Paulo was very patiend with the group and he helped every one. When he saw that someone already understood one technic, he would explain a different one so everyone had a little challenge and got to try different technics. Afterwards he brought us our handmade pasta, a delicious dessert and the same suprise as Caramello. We enjoyed both cooking classes and recommend others to also follow these classes.

Overall this was a great experience. Entertaining instructor. Free flowing wine. Delicious arancini at the end enjoyed at a big table of the 25 class participants. We put our own choice of ingredients as the filling in our arancini. We took some home to enjoy later. The meeting point at the restaurant was a bit chaotic and we all walked to another restaurant for our class. The previous class were still enjoying their meal so it was loud until they cleared out.

Review of Porta Messina Ristorante Cooking Class with Luca We had an absolutely fantastic time at Porta Messina with Luca! The cooking class was a perfect family experience, and Luca made sure it was enjoyable for everyone, including our two children (ages 7 and 9). From the start, Luca's friendly, approachable demeanor put us all at ease, and he was wonderful at keeping the kids engaged throughout the whole process. We cooked a range of delicious dishes, starting with eggplant parmigiana and salted fish, both full of flavor and taught with techniques we’ll definitely try at home. The homemade pasta was a highlight—Luca guided us step by step, making it fun and hands-on for all of us, especially the kids. Some of our favorite dishes included the swordfish rolls, which were packed with flavor, and the sarde a beccafico—a traditional Sicilian dish made with sardines, breadcrumbs, and tomato sauce. Everything was served with five different kinds of bread and paired with delicious local Sicilian wine, making the meal feel like a true feast. To top it all off, we received a certificate at the end of the experience, which was such a thoughtful touch and made the day even more memorable for the kids (and us too!). This class was more than just a cooking lesson—it was a cultural experience we’ll never forget. Thank you, Luca, for making it so special. If you’re visiting Sicily and love food, this is an experience not to miss!

Fantastic Experience! The pizza cooking class with Antonie was an absolute delight! He made the entire experience fun, relaxed, and super informative. His passion for cooking really shows, and he explained each step clearly while sharing great tips and tricks. The ingredients were top quality, and the pizzas we made were honestly some of the best I’ve ever had. I left the class feeling confident and inspired to make pizza at home. Highly recommend this class—and especially Antonie—for anyone who loves good food and great company!
