The Tower of Pisa is definitely a must-visit landmark and an iconic place to see at least once. However, I have to say it didn’t surprise or fascinate me as much as I expected. In my opinion, there are many more beautiful places in the area that are worth exploring. The positive side is that it wasn’t very crowded when we visited. We spent around 30 minutes there, took some photos, enjoyed the atmosphere, and then moved on. It’s worth a short stop if you’re nearby, but I wouldn’t plan a long visit just for it.

While vacationing in Florence, we decided to take a one-hour train ride to visit the Leaning Tower of Pisa and it turned out to be one of the nicest detours of the trip. Honestly, leaving Italy without seeing it would have felt like a real miss. We spent time walking around the grounds and decided to go all the way up the tower, which was a memorable experience on its own. A small tip: try to go on a weekday and earlier in the day to avoid long waits for the climb. The tower isn’t very tall, around 250 steps, and yes, it can be a bit tiring, but it’s absolutely worth it. There’s no rush. Take it slow, enjoy the climb, and once you reach the top, the view makes you forget all about the steps. Of course, we couldn’t leave without taking the classic silly photos pretending to hold up or push the tower, something that’s genuinely fun no matter your age. It ended up being a beautiful addition to a romantic vacation, and it’s easy to see why kids would love it too. We took the train from Firenze Santa Maria Novella to Pisa Centrale and walked from the station to the tower. There are buses available, but we chose to walk, and it was a pleasant 25-minute stroll through the city. If you’re in Florence and can fit it into your itinerary, don’t skip Pisa. It’s simple, iconic, and totally worth the trip.

We went in Florence for few days and we decided to go and see the Tower of Pisa. Very easy to go by train, you have around 20 trains per day between Florence and Pisa. The train takes between 1h and 90 min ( depends how many stops ) and cost around 20 euro total for Florence-Pisa-Florence. Ask for an open ticket to let you take any train you want. We arrived in Pisa around 10AM and we walked in direction of the tower. We did t know what to expect and having no expectations resulted on big excitement - the complex is just magnificent , nice architecture and lot of history on that place. Was a monastery, an academic place ( Fibonacci was working there ) and you can visit the cathedral, the Opera , the old sepulture , the old fortification wall and of course the tower. We did t know you can walk up to top of the tower - we got tickets to visit all and this included a tower visit. The visit is an a certain time and five to the opportunity to walk up to the top where the bells are. The experience is one in life. What you need to know: you cannot get any bags with you in tower - you need to let your bags in a special secure place not far from tower. When you go up if yo go at noon the bells will ring - they will snide you about that. The sound is impressive - be prepared. Also to go up you have around 280 steps and the inclination of the tower will add more complexity to your ascension. Keep this in mind when you book.

We visited the Leaning Tower of Pisa on a Sunday afternoon, having wisely secured a timed reservation to climb to the top—an essential decision and one I would strongly recommend. Despite a steady chorus of travel commentators dismissing the tower as overrated or not worth the effort, our experience proved quite the opposite. Reaching Pisa required intention: a high-speed train to Florence followed by a regional connection, totaling approximately three hours of travel. It was time well invested. In a world of nearly eight billion people, relatively few will ever stand inside this structure, let alone ascend it. That perspective alone reframes the value of the experience. The tower’s inclination is neither subtle nor theoretical. It is immediately perceptible upon entering; the lean creates a genuine sense of disorientation, a mild vertigo that is surprising yet oddly compelling. The ascent consists of 253 steps—counted both on the way up and down—and each rotation of the spiral staircase reinforces the physical reality of the tilt. At the summit, the reward is undeniable. On a clear, sunlit day, the views across Pisa are expansive and serene, offering a moment of stillness that contrasts beautifully with the architectural tension beneath your feet. Experiencing the tower both from within and without—its engineering, its imbalance, its endurance—was deeply satisfying. Shared with my daughter, the visit became more than a checklist landmark; it was a memorable, worthwhile experience that fully justified the journey.

The Leaning Tower of Pisa is definitely worth a quick stop—an iconic landmark that looks just as fascinating in person as in photos. But honestly, there isn’t much else to do around the area or even in the city itself. A few good clicks, a short walk around the Piazza dei Miracoli, and you’re pretty much done. The good part is how close it is to Florence—less than an hour by train. You can easily come early from Florence, explore the tower and the nearby cathedral, and head back within 3–4 hours without rushing. Overall, a fun, quick experience, especially if you’re in Florence and want to tick this classic spot off your list!
