The Sea Horse Combo is a full-day adventure blending horseback riding through Iceland's scenic countryside with whale watching in Faxaflói Bay. Your day begins with a morning pickup in Reykjavík, followed by a drive to the picturesque geothermal town of Hveragerði, where Eldhestar's professional guides welcome you at their horse farm. After gearing up with safety equipment and warm clothing, you'll set off on a 1.5–2 hour ride aboard a friendly Icelandic horse. Depending on the weather, you may cross the Varmá River, traverse lava fields, and ride through lush meadows, surrounded by the unique volcanic landscape. After your ride, enjoy a light lunch at the farm before heading back to Reykjavík for the second part of your tour.
In the afternoon, join Elding for an unforgettable whale watching cruise from Reykjavík’s Old Harbour. Setting sail into the rich waters of Faxaflói Bay, you’ll search for various marine life, including minke whales, humpback whales, white-beaked dolphins, and harbour porpoises. With expert guides and on-board commentary, you’ll gain fascinating insight into the local ecosystem. The vessel offers indoor seating, restrooms, a café with light refreshments, and warm overalls or blankets for added comfort. This combo tour offers a memorable taste of both Icelandic nature and wildlife, but as always, is subject to weather conditions—so be sure to dress warmly and wear sturdy shoes.

They deserve allll of the stars! I did the lava rock ride. They are knowledgeable and kind, the horses are clearly loved and well taken care of. I am an experienced English rider and even with a mixed group of experience we got the opportunity to try the tölt multiple times. They ensured that I was able to do it which was big for me as a fellow rider. I highly recommend Sólhestar for a ride while here!

It was amazing! We have been riding as a family. Our youngest is 7 years and it was the first time for her riding a horse on her own. She enjoyed it so much!!! Thanks especially to our lovely guide Claire. She was so friendly and helpful with everything. The horses have been calm and easy to handle. A must do in Iceland!

Amazing horseback riding experience! At the start, the team of staff assessed every rider's experience level before assigning a horse to them and were very clear in their simple instructions on how to ride a horse. During the ride, they rode at the start, end, and in the middle of the line to ensure that everyone was comfortable at all times. The staff also used their horses to temporarily block street traffic so that we could cross safely and shared interesting trivia about Icelandic horses during the ride. Halfway through the ride, we made a stop so the team of staff could take photos for each of the visiting guests on their horses with the nice scenery. After two hours of walking up and down hills and trotting along the paths, we returned to the stable and got to pet the horses, take selfies with them, and have a hot drink. It was my first time ever riding a horse and I'm happy that I got to do it in Iceland and with Solhestar. Thank you for a memorable experience!

Great first horseback riding experience with Solhestar! Even beginners can manage the two-hour ride, which includes some faster segments through beautiful red lava landscapes. They thoughtfully arranged a photo session halfway through, though the people in the photos are a bit small. Just a heads-up — the trail can be dusty, so dressing appropriately is a good idea.

One of my top life experiences by far; I’ve dreamt of doing that since I was a little kid and it did not disappoint. The tour itself was gorgeous and the guides were knowledgeable and professional; it was clear from the beginning that they prioritized each rider’s safety and knew what they were doing. I also really enjoyed that they took our pictures without us having to even ask first, very thoughtful. But the star of the show, my horse for the evening- She was amazing! :’) (I meant to ask how to spell her name!) :( *** I wish the tour just never ended. Definitely check this one out, you won’t regret it. You’ll even get some coffee/tea/hot chocolate after your ride ;) Can’t wait to come back!
