Join this tour from Schull Harbour for a scenic ferry journey through the breathtaking waters of Roaring Water Bay, arriving at the picturesque North Harbour on Cape Clear Island. This Gaeltacht island is steeped in history and tradition, offering visitors a glimpse into island life, old customs, and traditional farming. Wander along well-marked walking trails that lead to ancient standing stones, the Napoleonic Tower, Dún an Óir Castle, and a 12th-century church. A visit to the island’s memorial to the 1979 Fastnet Yacht Race Disaster provides a solemn reminder of one of the most devastating storms in modern sailing history. While exploring, take in stunning views of the Fastnet Rock Lighthouse from one of the island’s scenic lookout points, or enjoy a meal of fresh island produce at a local bar or restaurant.
After lunch, re-board the ferry and venture further into the heart of Ireland’s Wild Atlantic Way. Keep an eye out for dolphins and whales as they often make an appearance in these waters. As the ferry circles Fastnet Rock, the tallest and widest rock lighthouse in Ireland and the UK, immerse yourself in its rich maritime history through onboard audio narration. Known as the “Teardrop of Ireland,” this lighthouse was the last sight of home for emigrants sailing toward America. Take in the awe-inspiring isolation of this landmark, once known as An Carraig Aonair’ or Lonely Rock,’ and imagine the resilience of those who lived there, especially during the massive 1985 storm that shattered the lighthouse’s lens. After two full rotations around this legendary structure, ensuring everyone captures the perfect photograph, the return journey offers more spectacular coastal scenery before arriving back in Schull.
Appropriate rainproof gear and some warm cloths - temperature is always cooler at sea. If the weather is good bring sun cream, sun glasses and hat.

A charming beach town with so much to offer! The little bars scattered throughout the area are perfect for enjoying the good weather when it’s on our side. There are endless water activities to keep you entertained, from paddleboarding to jet skiing. The highlight, though, has to be the boat tours that take you out to spot whales—an unforgettable experience! Whether you're looking to relax or seek adventure, this town has it all. Highly recommend for a weekend getaway!

Breathtaking, once in a lifetime thing to see. Absolutely worth the visit. It does take 5 hours with a stop at Cape Clear Island though so be prepared to invest some time in it.

An amazing trip on a warm sunny day... with calm seas. An amazing piece of historic engineering to see up close.
